AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Long depicted as the rootin'-tootin' capital of American gun culture, Texas is one of the few states with an outright ban on the open carry of handguns.

That could change in 2015, with the Republican-dominated Legislature and Gov.-elect Greg Abbott expected to push for expanded gun rights.

"If open carry is good enough for Massachusetts, it's good enough for the state of Texas," Abbott said...

The friendliest place is the parking lot outside the gun range. No road rage incidents there...

open carry.org
It isn’t a crime for Class A permit holders to open carry in Massachusetts, but some jurisdictions may use such instances to revoke permits.

“If English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it’s good enough for every child in America.”
“Ma” Ferguson, Texas governor

Setting aside the comparison by a Texan of his state’s gun laws with those of Massachusetts, knowing that there are a lot of Yahoos walking around with .45s, rounds chambered, but no real training on safe gun handling, I suppose seeing the same yahoos attempt open carry shouldn’t be too much more alarming.

Dear AP, please define “Rootin’ - Tootin’”. Thank you, your breathless reader.

Our (the Texas) constitution was written by Democrats in 1875. and it has hundreds or more amendments to it since then.

The leftists of the past have moved out of Texas and headed to the Yankee lands. Liberal DemonRAT governors were the norm for far too many years here. Bill Clements was a good man.

After her husband’s impeachment and conviction, Ma Ferguson sought the Democratic nomination for governor, and was elected to office in 1933.

Mark White was a schmuck and Richards was simply an arrogant old hag.

I remember Clements vaguely, I was amazed because he bore a striking resemblance to maternal grandfather.

Oh well, Texas isn’t just a place, it’s a state of mind.

The 'RATS of Texas tried to ruin his reputation with the so-called "scandal" of the SMU football program. He did nothing wrong in reality. Bill Clements brought morality and prosperity to Texas because of his Christian values and Conservative political philosophy.

I had completely forgotten about SMU.

My mother apparently met him once and was impressed.

For my mother to be impressed from a single meeting, he must have been something very special indeed.

My mother was an excellent judge of character.

Sorry, waxing nostalgic - she has Alzeihmer’s, your post triggered a happy memory of her.

Wow! It’s not already an open carry state? KY has been forever.

Comparatively speaking, it's only been in the past few decades that Texas became Conservative. Sadly, for much of its history, the Lone Star state was under the thumb of DemonRATs with their leftist policies of anti-liberty. It's only been recent in the great swath of history that leftists have been repudiated here. Just the opposite was happening in New England, the home of Calvin Coolidge and once reliably Republican in election after election.

The liberal lie is that the parties "switched" at some point. The commies have likewise manufactured the myth of the co-called "Southern Strategy". Such things never happened. The reality is that liberals who used to infest Texas by voting DemonRAT moved out and populated New England, taking their leftism with them.

In any event, with Conservatism now triumphant in Texas, the anti-liberty gun laws of the bad old days will be gone soon.

Michigan has always been an open carry state. We are pushing for constitutional carry.

With Michigan now turning to freedom with Right to Work now the law, there’s great hope for the Great Lakes state. It wasn’t too long ago that many were writing Michigan off as a failure but Conservatism is waxing there. I think that the presence of Hillsdale College is a positive force for good.
