I was in that situation driving a neighbor to hospital emergency room.
Police pulled me over. I told the officer what was going on. He wanted me to wait. I told him sorry, I’ll see you at the hospital and drove on.
The officer was furious when we got there, berating me as I was helping my neighbor get out of the car and into the emergency room.
