Several people have been taken hostage by at least one armed man at a Lindt cafe in the centre of Sydney.
That's a funny thing. I got into a debate with an Aussie who was rather left-wing and rabidly anti-American simply because of our "gun culture." He insisted that all guns were illegal in Australia and there was a total ban. Knowing only just a bit about the gun laws there, I called him on it. He called me an ignorant yank. Yet, he proved to be far more ignorant about his countries own gun laws.
Now back to the ongoing incident...
You can still own semi-autos with the right licence. Handguns also, with the right licence.
Most people only bother to get a basic licence, though.
It puts a new light on why it isn’t being reported, so sad, and I wonder if the kidnapper was aware of that when taking hostages in that district. I would think TV coverage would be what they wanted for their effort in kidnapping so many people.
If NOT ISIS, then their efforts may be wasted...hopefully the kidnapped survive. How are your police in responding to crisis like this one?
The Saudi flag has the shahada on it too no?
I’ve already visited my local gunshop this morning. He’s not just ignorant. He’s blind.
The gun laws aren’t good and there are a lot of dumb restrictions. But there are millions of guns in private hands and scores, if not hundreds of gun shops.
Police are good. And - I won’t go into details as a matter of form, but - don’t mess with the SAS. Or certain other groups, including a couple based in Sydney.
I like your interpretation.
Keeping down newsfeed the terrorists could see
Cool...when I was younger I had planned to move to Australia, but then more family came along....and time changes things, now I think I screwed up...lol
A friends sister I knew from here went to live in Alice Springs, as her husband worked for our government there.
Is your SAS like our FBI?
I think Drudge is fighting hackers, one day last week he was down for several hours.
The SAS (Special Air Service) are Australia’s most elite Army special forces unit - the equal of any other in the world.
And part of their job is anti-terrorism.
A FR from Australia said the NEWS channels were in the area of the hostage takeover, and they had to evacuate, so I guess coverage will be delayed.
The aussie media mentioned a anti-terror arrest this
morning, could have triggered this off.
“has been co-opted by various jihadist groups.”
Oh, well then. The flag IS NOT an ISIS flag but a flag expressing the faith of Islam..........that is reassuring, especially to the hostages.
Another idiotic comment from an Islamic apologist, pretending to be a news correspondent.
Getting reports via twitter that at least one hostage taker wearing a vest believed to be a bomb.

Okay, they are more like out Navy Seals, Army Rangers...the Special Forces, that’s good.
Go SAS!
I’m glad you said it. I was thinking of posting something a little while ago. Drudge seems to be very slow, headlines remaining the same for a long time. I rarely check in there these days. It’s mainly FR and Breitbart, but FR is always my first stop.
Yes, if you think of groups like your Special Forces, you have the right idea.
