Why white people should protest racial injustice

I’m standing at the intersection of Dwight and Shattuck in Berkeley with my hands in the air, shouting, “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” It is the third night of protests over the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner and the grand juries’ decision against indicting the white policemen involved in each of these cases.

Surrounding me are students wearing Cal sweatshirts, young mothers with children, hippie types with gray ponytails, and a few middle-aged women like me. Although the crowd is sprinkled with brown and black faces, most of us are white.

The irony of being a white person mimicking a black person begging for mercy from a white police officer is not lost on me. But it doesn’t feel absurd or self-righteous; it feels like a welcome outlet for my anger and frustration.

Quotas

Disproportionate black-on-everybody else crime

Underachievement in schools and higher education

Disproportionate taking of welfare, charity, et al

Destruction of neighborhoods, shopping areas, schools, central cities/downtowns, other areas built by our ancestors

I see that "Hands Up Don't Shoot" has been redefined as a metaphor protesting supposed police brutality against minorities now that the abject lie that Brown was peacefully surrendering when he was killed has been exposed. It's "a larger truth" to use the leftist's sinister twisting of the language.
