Will video kiosks work for $15.00 per hour?

I love small family owned places and give them my patronage.
I have had better food in roadside taverns than in any franchise.
Often better than high end restaurants.

"Hey people did it to themselves......"

Yep...take your $15 dollars an hour minimum wage and shove it.

Demands for a living wage have paid off - there are now fewer jobs that pay below the liberal-endorsed “living wage”.

I think you’re both reading way too much into my posts. Do I want all restaurants to be run by robots? No. Is that going to happen when French fry cookers and dishwashers are demanding $15 an hour, a union and gold-plated benefits? You’re d*** right it will. Entrepreneurs aren’t idiots, by and large. Those “little family run restaurants” can’t replicate themselves, especially now, so while some of them may survive, the future belongs to chains, and chains will do anything to streamline costs.

My parents told me the same; today jobs that can’t be outsourced are just targets for importing foreigners to do them.

The auditors I’ve dealt with at one point included an American, a Canadian, and a Filipino; the two foreigners were sponsored by a big firm to come here to work. Absolutely disgusting; as in tech, there is no shortage of those workers already here in the US.

"My daughter goes to school in upstate NY and they have Wegmans."

I grew up in Rochester, NY in the 50's and 60's, and Wegman's was a great store back then. It's even better now. I live about an hour east of Syracuse, which is the closest Wegman's to me. For some reason they've never expanded any farther east in NY State, but they've got stores in MA, NJ, PA, MD and VA.

Because an impersonal screen is so much better than face to face time with another breathing human being./s And people wonder why all of a sudden so many people's manners and social skills have gone to pot. Those type of people need to go back to their touch screens and live in their little disconnected drone-like world. The rest of us need regular face to face contact to survive and thrive as human beings.

I think almost all chains just fry or microwave pre packaged food. My first job was waitressing in the local small town restaurant. The owner made everything (except the eggrolls) from scratch. I still miss the food there. In college I waitressed at Perkins, to this day I can’t stand pancakes. My kids love them but I make them 4 times a year at the most. Ugh.

That is because yall support franchise fast food, not because some ahole wishes for $15

If MW goes up ALL prices go up.

I loath the way we embrace McStuff on a stick in this world.
I can get real food faster and cheaper.
We all could if we would support it.

We have robots that issue traffic tickets for speeding or going through a red light, they check out our groceries we purchase, and when we order online or at a fast food joint.

The Japanese are developing robots to take care of the elderly because the younger Japanese generations aren’t interested in taking care of them and won’t have the manpower to do so since they aren’t having enough children.

In the “old days” fast food was pretty much staffed by young folks as a learning assignment and some retirees. Maybe some homemakers during the lunch rush when the kids were at school. Most of these folks were fairly happy to have the job, and while sometimes mistake prone, at least presented a decent attitude.

Now in the era of Baraq, “McJobs” are the new middle class standard, staffed by people who believe it when the media tells them they should be making $15/hour, so they’re grumpy.
