Cruz: Let’s not play Santa to K Street
The Hill ^ | December 12, 2014, 10:01 pm | Ramsey Cox

Sen. Ted Cruz (D-Texas) blasted the $1.1 trillion "cromnibus" spending bill, saying it was full of presents for lobbyists.

“It’s full of Christmas presents for the lobbyists and special interests in Washington,” Cruz said on the Senate floor Friday. “I know it’s Christmas time, but it’s not our job to play Santa to K Street.”

The Senate is considering the trillion-dollar package that would fund most of the government through September, avoiding a government shutdown. House Republicans only funded the Department of Homeland Security through February as protest to President Obama’s executive order on immigration.

But Cruz said that wasn’t good enough. He wants an amendment that would prevent the president from issuing nearly 5 million temporary work visas to immigrants already inside the United States.

“The president’s executive amnesty is lawless and unconstitutional,” Cruz said. “We should have an amendment vote on this issue.”

The House passed the bill Thursday night and left town for the year, meaning the Senate has to pass the bill as is to prevent a government shutdown.

"The Senate is going to pass this massive pork-filled mess of a bill," Cruz said. "And yet leadership in both bodies, Republican leadership in both bodies, have said it is designed to stand up to President Obama and his illegal amnesty. … We will learn soon enough if those statements are genuine and sincere."

Cruz shutdown the government in 2013 for nearly two weeks over ObamaCare funding — this time he’s it’s about immigration.

There are also objections about the bill from Democrats — particularly Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who opposes a GOP rider that repeals part of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.

Where are Scott and Vitter, two other guys I respect? As for Toomey, he probably consulted Ed Rendell and Joe Manchin, the two guys who “helped” him see the light on gun control. Bob

it's not working for hillary

I agree. FWIW, I could tolerate a Warren nomination. She's flawed enough to give Cruz or Sessions a chance. And she vs Cruz (or Sessions, maybe a few others) would provide some intelligent campaign discussion about the factors that are causing the US to collapse.

They are taking another trillion dollars from our kids. The banks don’t come close to the 20 trillion these people want

Warren is defending and supporting a major organized crime syndicate lecturing it’s victims on the dangers of pickpockets

Cruz has to figure out how to minimize that and her schtick which is ironically charismatic

Hillary can’t compete

If she’s been taking care of herself. But she’s fat and she’s out of the debate here

Cruz v warren

Warren makes the left salivate the way Cruz makes us salivate.

Apparently both left and right have had enough of the establishment.

So will it be Cruz vs Warren in ‘16?

Could be. It’s equally possible that it could be Cruz vs Hillary. I think that Cruz would actually have an easier time beating Hillary—she does not do well outside of a sheltered existence.

The Chicago Mob is beginning to “stand with Warren”

In 2016, Hillary 2.0 could go as badly as Hillary 1.0.

I am having a very hard time with all of this.

Any FReeper worth his bandwidth saw this coming over a week ago and these Senate fellows want me to believe they didn't?

Go ahead, Ted, shut'er down.

McConnell, Boehner, maybe you two multi-millionaire RINO SOBs ought to hide out with Boehner's Rasta Son-in-Law and get yourself some Secret Service protection. Your good pal, The Mombasa MF owes you that much. BTW, if he runs true to form, he'll be throwing both your shabby asses under the bus next year!

The House run by a sloppy drunk. The Senate "Republicans" by a flabby pink pansy. Where is that covered in the Constitution?

Could be. It’s equally possible that it could be Cruz vs Hillary.

They are setting up Warren vs. Jeb Bush. Easy contrast, easy win for one of K-Street's top men in DC. The Tea Party will, in theory, shut up and accept Bush because they are so afraid of Warren. The Left will, in theory, accept the loss with minimal grumbling because Warren will be elevated to such a high profile and be in a good position for future success. Best of both worlds for the connected.

Which she will only achieve if she does what K-Street tells her, despite the rhetoric she produces for public consumption. Look at Obama - he's a master at it. Talks like a revolutionary, acts entirely on K-Street's behalf.

.... COMMIE Lieawatha vs RINO Jeb, the Indian wins.

Jeb will find a creative way to lose, with the expensive help of Karl Rove.

I think we should remind theses loontic Rinos claiming to be our champans every day how they just gave away all their power for nothing. How we can never trust them as even competent leaders much-less faithful ones.
