This whole theme of Hungary moving closer to Russia is bull feces created by the liberal establishment (including McCain) because Hungary refuses to became another socialist state of the EU.
They cannot stand that Hungary is throwing out the EU, the IMF and all its dependency on foreign elements.
Hungary wants Hungarian banks to hold the mortgages of properties in Hungary...not big EU states, like Austria or Switzerland.
Hungary enshrined protection of the unborn into its constitution, which outraged the publicly funded abortions in the EU.
I see nothing wrong with drug & alcohol testing elected officials and journalists.
I imagine we have quite a few journalists in this country who are addicts and their supplier controls their journalism.
If we had drug testing, there would be no Senator Al Franken.

As us Cold War people remember, Hungary was at the FOREFRONT of resisting the Soviets during the Cold War and paid a big price for that. I have trouble seeing how they would ever turn into a Soviet-like state. I have even more trouble see how ANY LEADER that wants his grandchildren to have a country left would join the EU, which seems hell-bent on repopulating Europe with people that hate their culture or starting WW3 against Russia, without a military to fight with (or both).
Bottom-line, just as you said, they want NOTHING TO DO with what Europe is becoming and will try to maintain their state, while the rest of Europe collapses in front of them.
Hungary produces a lot of pork. Maybe they are afraid that under the EU, they will have to observe Sharia law, and pork will be banned.
The EU overlords seem hellbent on going Muslim.

We need to bring those making the rules under the rules they make. All this "exempt status" crap has America living under different systems, with no Equal Protection under the Law.
I have long thought IQ and sanity tests would be appropriate for members of Congress as well as passing courses in basic economics and ethics.

Hungary kept its Ministry of Defense building from 1956. It is a concrete building full of holes from tanks and other Soviet equipment.
