Very slow but picking up

If starting up is considerably slower than usual, that'd suggest your having picked up a nastie of some sort.

Ahh, just saw you're doing a scan (AV?) .. that'll invariably slow everything waaay down while it's running.

Will be curious to know if you're able to d/l anything after the reboot.

If you know how, do a system restore. Pick a date before the problem started.
You won't lose anything unless you have installed a program since that date.
Then you would just reinstall that program.
Go to START-ALL PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-SYSTEM TOOLS-SYSTEM RESTORE.

Slowness is normally caused by two things.

1. System Registry cluttered up.

2. TEMP FILES exceedingly large.

CCLEANER will fix your registry, and clean up your temp files.
