With widely watched amateur videos of police killings as a backdrop, New York City police are hoping to arm more officers with stun guns as an option for subduing emotionally disturbed people and other suspects who resist arrest.
Preliminary plans call for 450 additional officers to carry the electroshock weapons while on patrol, police officials said Wednesday. The department would first have to find funding and develop more precise guidelines on which circumstance are appropriate to use the devices.

Eric Garner could have died from a stun gun, too.

The AP stands for nothing so it falls for anything.
Truly Stunning!
Will they drop the charges on the guy who recorded the incident? Meh.... propaganda alert.
The newest model of the Taser has better monitoring of the “circuit” and more importantly, another set of darts. The model you see most police with has a high failure rate due to not getting two darts into the subject.
Stun guns, basically, suck as a defensive weapon. One, short, inaccurate shot that will leave most, not all, of your intended targets incapacitated. It’s better than having nothing. But not that much better.
Police would be better off with muzzle loading pistols. At least they would have one real shot.
The real problem here is that Al Sharpton et al are trying to redefine justifiable killing in self defense. That doesn’t just protect police. It protects regular citizens. If the police don’t have the right to defend themselves with deadly force, soon we will not either.
No, no, no. The officers did everything right. I’ve been told.
How effective is a stun gun in cold weather when people are wearing a couple of layers of clothes and a heavy coat?
From Star Trek we have learned one needs to set stun guns to stun and not kill.
The stun gun requires arms-length contact. That endangers the police officer by putting him within reach of the perp.
How about wider use of common sense?
Shall we start the countdown to when the “Fairness for Thugs Movement” will complain that tazering is torture. And how long before we see the signs “Don’t taze me Bro” show up. And we’ll be browbeated about the fact that Blacks are tazed 3 times as often as little old White ladies in scooters.
“. That endangers the police officer by putting him within reach of the perp.”

Do you think that matters to many people?
Protecting the offender is a top priority these days.
Anyone considering a career in law enforcement is nuts.
