House Republicans blocked a legislative rider that would have protected churches in California from being forced to pay for abortions, according to one lawmaker, because they needed Democratic support to pass the CRomnibus.
Representative John Fleming (R., Ariz.) tried to have the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act added to the CRomnibus because in response to a new regulation in California that requires all insurance plans to cover elective abortions.
“Even our own leadership stripped it out,” Fleming told reporters Wednesday. The rider didn’t make it through negotiations with Democrats in the House and Senate.
The federal government is supposed to revoke federal funding from state governments that “discriminat[es]” against those who refuse to provide abortion coverage, but President Obama’s administration has not enforced that provision of the law against California.
Fleming hoped Congress would “give a basis for private action” — that is, empower churches to file lawsuits against such rules.
Although Fleming acknowledged that the measure was a poison pill for Democrats, he said that was a reason for Republicans not to rush a bill through during the lame-duck that required Democratic support.
“It should be a foregone conclusion [next year],” he said.

I realize you’re being sarcastic but its not really a surprise. Anyone watching the GOP’s concerted attempts to marginalize the Tea Party had to see this coming. Its been there for all to see.
At least it should be clear now that the GOP does not, and never will, represent or support conservatives. The next two years are going to provide many more painful reminders of that fact.

Its looking more and more everyday like a MUDslide.
Blocked a good bill to get support to pass a horrible bill.
I don’t think it can be selectively done. There are just too many of them to weed out. Another party is our only option IMO.
I’m beginning to loath these people more than the Dems. At least the Dems are up front on who they are and battle you face to face, mano a mano. These establishment conservatives pretend to be down with you and then stab you in the back. They are treacherous weasels.
Throw the bums out.
I would love to see Democrats vote no, and leave Boehner hanging high, and dry after he has dumped all over conservatives in the House.
Churches paying for abortions would be like banks paying for robberies. senseless.....
Conservatives need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, and lots of it!
