MILITARY PAY AND PERKS:

Military service members will receive a 1 percent pay increase next year. But there’s a pay freeze for generals and flag officers. The bill also ends a five percent discount on tobacco and tobacco-related products sold at military exchanges

I subscribed to Marlboro.com simply to get coupons to give to soldiers at Walter Reed. I often got coupons for free packs. They loved those. Plus, Marlboro thinks I am a big customer so they send me all kinds of crap, including the money clip I have had for 6 years.

It's even worse!

Congressman Blasts Colleagues [Money for active duty troops cut in secret back room deal]

When the House passed its bill back in May, troop pay was intact. When the surprise “conferenced” version popped up this week, it wasn’t. Both active duty pay and housing stipends had been reduced. And since I’m a member of the Armed Services Committee, I’m expected to sign off on the final bill and say these cuts are ok.

IIRC, so was health benefits.
