Callie Van Tornhout was about a month old when her mother noticed that she'd developed a dry cough on a Sunday afternoon in January.

Soon the cough worsened, and Callie became pale and started throwing up, Callie's mother, Katie Van Tornhout told ABC News. By the middle of the week, Callie stopped breathing in her mother's arms in a pediatrician's waiting room and was rushed to the hospital.

On Saturday, less than a week after the cough first appeared, Callie died at 37 days old on Jan. 30, 2010. It wasn't until a few weeks later that tests confirmed the culprit: whooping cough.

Newborns can’t get the vaccine. Babies get their first one @2 months, followed by another one @4 and @6 months (3 doses to build it up). Things must have changed since I was last pregnant (14 years ago). The OB didn’t recommend ANY vaccines while I was pregnant. If I was planning for a baby, I’d get the vaccine booster PRIOR to any pregnancy. Personally, I wouldn’t get one while pregnant. The cause of this may be non-pc... but the FLOOD of illegals have brought all sorts of diseases back to our common day.

Agreed. I have not forgotten. I have excoriated Reagan on a number of issues, including the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, and have been labeled many terms as a result.

No leader is perfect. Reagan is a fitting example. Which is why we must always be vigilant rather than submit to emotional/irrational bonds that blind many to reality.

I had Pertussis when I was a tot, and today it has left me with lung damage that was exacerbated by a collapsed lung in 1969 from a car accident, and 20 years of smoking. (GACK!)

When I get a cold, it sounds like the whoop of pertussis. But I am now on a nebulizer with three different meds. I hate to think this disease is coming back...excuse me...coming into this country. Third world America.. how sad is that?
