I'm reminded of a fairly early anecdote in "Barbarians at the Gate" (RJR/Nabisco LBO story). A businessman goes to an investment firm, and makes some sort of deal. The firm turns around and basically screws the guy somehow.
He says "WTF?", and his "buddies" say "That wasn't us, that was them on the merchant banking side of the house. We had nothing to do with it."
