Racial tensions are running high in New York in the wake of the death of Eric Garner at the hands of a police officer – and people have been up in arms at the decision to sing the song ‘White Christmas’ at the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Former Hootie and the Blowfish singer Darius Rucker sang the song at the Rockefeller Center this week – and it was immediately seized on as a racist choice.
Right-wing commentators, in turn, took this as evidence that left-wingers all thought the song was racist – and duly Tweeted their outrage, in even more unpleasant terms.
Composer Irving Berlin, a Russian Jew who died in 1989, would doubtless have been confused over the controversy.
The song, written in 1940, is not intended to have any racial content whatsoever – it’s a nostalgic song about past Christmasses, and the ‘white’ part is meant to be snow.
The Bing Crosby version of the song is thought to be the best-selling single of all time, having sold 50 million copies worldwide.
I was hoping for a White Christmas but it looks like the weather gods are going to be niggardly with regard to snowfall.
If anybody has a complaint, take it to the Creator who designed snow to be white.
See how far you get with that.
Of course, urban snow is only white for a very brief period.
Maybe they’d prefer “I’m dreaming of a dingy gray Christmas...”
Or how about “I’m dreaming of a Christmas of color”?
I’m dreaming of a non existent Kwanzaa?
Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” will come under attack next.
I guess singing about yellow snow is also off limits?
They are correct as far as it applies to me. I want white snow, white people, and white hoods. I always invite the boys from the klavern over for a dinner of turkey breast and pork roast —”the other white meat.” I don’t even allow colored lights on the tree.
Seriously — it is disturbing that people of this intellectual level are walking among us.

Much of the “outrage” was being expressed by blacks that a black singer would dare to sing that song so soon after the Garner decision.

Apparently they don’t know Rucker’s music or they would realize he doesn’t subscribe to their garbage mob mentality.
White Christmas was written by Irving Berlin, a Jew, while he was staying in either La Quinta, California or Phoenix, Arizona. In either case, zero snow, palm trees and cacti, and green golf courses. It has also been suggested that he wrote it in summer.

Roughed-up feller who delivered it said he was working for the new gov-elect of Illinois who not long ago bought hisself a big ranch up Mill Creek way. Bought two of 'em in fact, what I hear.
Along with his ranch duties the woodchopper gets to chop and sell wood from out there in his spare time. Nothing too unusual about it, happens all the time in this area, but I did think it was interesting.

Yes, the new governor has houses all over. The defeated Gov. Quinn tried to make a political point about that, but failed.
Sorry to belabor it all.
I’m curious though...is he a decent guy, the new gov? One has to wonder why a terrifically successful guy would want the job...especially when corruption seems to taken down so many of them.
Again, sorry to go on. Since talking with the woodman I’ve just found myself pondering.
