Full title: Rolling Stone quietly changes apology on rape story to take full responsibility after critics accused magazine of 'victim blaming'

Rolling Stone magazine has quietly changed its botched and much-criticized apology over a damning article documenting an alleged brutal gang rape at the University of Virginia.

In the story by writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely, a junior identified only as 'Jackie' says she was repeatedly assaulted by a group of seven Phi Kappa Psi fraternity members.

But on Friday, Rolling Stone Managing Editor Will Dana apologized in a letter to readers, admitting there were discrepancies in Jackie's account about the incident and saying that the magazine has now 'come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced.'

The magazine came under heavy fire for an apology that was seen as blaming the victim and throwing Jackie under the bus.

The craziest thing about this is ROLLING STONE saying they never checked with the alleged rapists (their fraternity or any of them) is because "Jackie" feared reprisal.

Running the story wasn't going to cause worse problems for her?

Today a Fox contributor says "Jackie" wanted to not participate in the story before it ran. Major red flag.

I hope not only RS is bankrupted financially from this but the UVA head is fired as well. She reacted without any actual proof in a pathetic way - as bad as the Duke officials years ago.

I would think any member of that frat or in recent years could sue for defamation. The implication was EVERY member had to rape a girl as part of a hazing ritual.

Indeed: Victims never lie (about being victims - if they are victims).

However, non-victims sometimes lie and claim that they are victims.

Ergo: Some people who claim to be victims are true victims, and not lying, while some of them are not true victims, but are rather lying.

In other words: Investigate both sides, and get all the facts, before printing anything.
