Republicans set to relaunch Obamacare attack in new year

Republicans are ramping up for a fresh fight against Obamacare in the new year, banking on Democratic support to repeal a key component of the law.

Republicans have slowed their anti-Obamacare drumbeat in recent months, with their success in the midterm elections, President Obama’s executive action on immigration, government funding and end-of-year business dominating the GOP agenda.

But come early 2015, Republicans will restart their push to repeal the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices that kicked in last year as part of the Affordable Care Act. And with the GOP controlling both chambers of Congress in January — and with several Democrats also calling for an end to the tax — Republicans believe such a move can be a meaningful first step in dismantling Obamacare.

The [Republican] agenda for next year will likely have low-hanging fruit — the low-hanging bipartisan issues that Republicans can begin to rack up successes in both House and Senate. And one of the first pieces will be the Medical Device Repeal Act,” said Ron Bonjean, a Republican strategist.

While a presidential veto is almost certain, some tax repeal supports say it’s possible enough Democrat support could be had to override a veto.

This is key, if the dems will join with the 'pubs in overriding this veto, it may allow the dems to look reasonable and allow further 'pub legislation to withstand future vetoes.

I believe Obama will veto any Republican legislation, just because he's an @sshole.

What’s this - low hanging fruit?

Why not attack the beast? What do we need Republicans for if they can’t bring themselves to face down Obama?

All we keep hearing are more excuses.

Taking a little crap out of the crap sandwich of ObaMaoCare rammed down our throats is a good start.

So is hamstringing the enforcement.

But repeal has to be the ultimate goal.

Don't be so critical, the 'pubs may grow some in the New Year.

I remember, in 1994, even with Gingrich, the 'pubs majority were able to reign in a lot of Clintons mischief and make him look "reasonable".

Anything Obama wants over the next 2 years must be tabled by the 'pubs, that's what the mid-terms showed, NO MORE OBAMA!

Nibble here and nibble there.

I thought political parties stood for something larger than mere expediency.

If we wanted to keep Obamacare, we would have voted for the Democrats, stupid.

I WILL be critical. You don't get to make those rules for me.

Liberal republicans must be politically destroyed at the primary or in the general.

Either way, I don't care.

I'm a conservative, not a republican. Republicans can go the way of Whigs, and will, if they don't figure it out.

I disagree with that. There is little they can accomplish with Hairy Reed as Senate Majority leader.

You are wrong.

The current House republicans can choose to NOT fund this mess. No bill from them, no funding. Easy peasy.

That's a start.

You are making excuses.

Lack of political power is not an excuse.

Yup.

As it now stands, they dread shutting down the federal government because the MSM will make them look bad.

They’d rather cave in to look reasonable than put up a fight over principle - especially when they could win on principle.

Well, HELLO, let's hold their feet to the fire NOW, the next election is 2 years off.

Have you given up after we WON the mid-terms?

Johnny, I don’t care if government is shut down half of next year. The Republicans know why they swept 2014.

Stay vigilant and give it a shot.

You hold their feet to the fire if you want. I'm already working on getting a liberal republican fired in the next election.

I make those rules for me.

You don't.
