The Purchasing Power Parity adjustments are not bogus — although they should be used along with the raw GDP numbers. Especially if you use a lot of services — eat at restaurants, hire a nanny, stay at hotels, etc. your money goes a lot further in a low-wage economy, than it does in (say) the U.S.A.
