Six figures begins at $100,000. annually. That is hardly any more in real terms than the $6000. a year I was earning as a single male high school graduate back in the sixties. I grossed enough in two years then to buy a decent house and lot in this area and that’s about all a hundred grand is now. In real terms the average high school graduate who is fortunate enough to be employed in this area now earns about one third to one half of what I earned then and that is if he can get forty hours a week as I did, most can’t and I would say that only applies to single men. Anyone who has children to support and try to send them to school is in another whole category. Back then you could send them to public school, now you have to either home school them or send them to an expensive private school. Sending them to public school is worse than no school.
I bought a brand new 1967 Mustang when I was 22 and paid $3000. for it. I could fill the gas tank for about $4.50. and it got 22 mpg highway, less than one and one half cents per mile for fuel.
My point? The prof needs to be earning not just six figures but fairly well above the minimum six figure income if he wants to buy much these days. Unless things change just earning a hundred grand a year won’t mean diddly in another three or four years. People making that much will be riding mopeds soon.
