While growing up in Detroit in the 60’s and 70’s, blacks were still in the minority in my particular area. The most common ethnic groups were Polish and Jewish. One of our neighbors introduced me to pickled beets, which, I suppose were a common item in Polish menus. I like picked beets to this day.
