Oil reserves grow in Colorado, across the U.S.
Denver Business Journal ^ | Dec 4, 2014 | Cathy Proctor

Colorado's growth in crude oil reserves ranked third behind North Dakota and Texas in the latest survey of the amount of oil buried in fields across the United States, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Nationally, crude oil reserves — oil that can be pumped from the ground under current economic conditions using existing technology — grew by 9 percent, or 3.1 billion barrels, in 2013 compared to 2012, the federal agency said.

It's the fifth year in a row the U.S. oil reserves have grown, the EIA said, evidence that the proliferation of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing has boosted the amount of oil and natural gas energy companies can access.

There is probably enough oil under the lower 48 to last us 1,000 years. Then we have another 1,000 years of oil under Alaska. After that, there's always Canada.

I think we are set for a while.

I agree, Sam. But long before those 1,000 years pass, the Earth will have manufactured even more oil. “Fossil fuels” have nothing to do with fossils.

Beyond the social firepit burnings, I’m just happy to use rock fuel to get along in the world...no excess.

Since burning oil is supposed to cause Global Warming we need to burn as much as possible to try and stave off the coming ice age.

Canada, practically the 51st or 58th state depending on who does the math.

In order to get the crude out of Colorado, they’d have to go in horizontally from an adjoining state since Colorado is as Communist as Cuba.

“Fossil fuels” have nothing to do with fossils.

More like compost.

Black slime from ocean algae, driven daily by the Sun, falls to the bottom, smashed by tons of pressure.

Ocean covers 70% of the Earth...It's an oil makin' machine!

You’re right but I have a feeling you’re responding to a brick wall.

I like crude oil. It’s all natural and organic, tapped from pristine pools of black gold, untouched by humans for millions of years.

>>untouched by humans for millions of years<<

I don’t know if it is or not. It might not take that long. Just think about the pressure and heat available at those depths. Why you might be able to cook up some organic soup in just a few weeks.

Some of the oil fields are in ancient ocean beds, some are in current ocean beds, and some are near the coast.

I’d say most oil wells are drilled deeper than sea level, and it isn’t too much of a stretch to consider oil traveling horizontally through porous rock or caverns from their source in ocean basements, to where it is being pumped on dry land.

Not Weld County! Number 1 in the nation for job growth last year. One of the only counties in the country with a surplus in it’s treasury. Solid conservative. They are in the process of drilling 17,000 oil wells here and we love the oil companies.
