New Poll Finds Something Surprising About Race and Climate Change
Mic ^

The classic portrayal of climate change is one of a great equalizer, a force that knows no color, creed or class. The rising seas will swallow us all, and if crops can't be harvested, none of us will eat. But a poll found that the public is more savvy than this story would have you believe.

A report by the Public Religion Research Institute and the American Academy of Religion found that race is a consistent predictor both of people's concern toward climate change and inclination to act on it, which suggests members of the public sense that the harms of climate change will be meted out disproportionately based on social status.

A link between race, climate and safety: While there is a global scientific consensus on the phenomenon of man-made climate change, the public varies quite a bit on the threat posed by this reality. Race is a useful demographic variable for explaining these differences.

According to the report, more than 7 in 10 Hispanic Americans and nearly 6 in 10 black Americans are very or somewhat concerned about the impact of climate change. By contrast, less than half of white Americans share this sentiment:

This is quite revealing, but not surprising.

OR, that certain groups are simply more gullible than others due to ethnicity, education, wealth, or world-view.

It seems the more you are fed from the government trough, the more you believe their propaganda. After all, why wouldn’t you trust them.

It is all the same people who think all of the rest of us should pay for everything, IMHO.

This is aberrant nonsense. If the stats are valid, which I doubt, they are a representation of the intellectual enslavement of minority poor to the elite statist class that promotes global climate change as a device for entrenching their power.

What it reveals is how gullible some groups are.

Good question, there is no reason for the word American not to follow “white”, like it does for Black and Hispanic or for it to be left off of all of them.

Yet why is it, with rare exceptions the eco//climate change/ animal rights movement is so overwhelmingly White? Environmentalism as we know it has its roots in naziism, and it was a White woman who got the modern enviro movement going by making dubious claims about DDT, which resulted in untold millions of starving Africans. This was immortalized in song by another White woman (Joni Mitchell, “Big Yellow Taxi”) Let’s get real, when was the last time a “Brother” saved a whale? Or a “Sister” saved a polar bear from the supposedly melting ice caps. The Sierra Club, WWF, Friends of the Earth, etc may as well be “Whites Only” clubs. Hell, I’ve seen more diversity at a NASCAR race.

The rising seas will swallow us all, and if crops can't be harvested, none of us will eat.

BS. I'm at 4600 ft elevation. The seas aren't going to be rising that much. Historically, they may rise or fall 400 ft. Not in my lifetime. The ice age that seems to be underway is a different story. Crops don't grow well in the cold.

This is very surprising and I don't believe it. Environmentalism is a nearly 100% lily white movement. All the scams are run by whites to financially benefit lily whites.

Support of Marxism/Collectivism is much higher among “minorities”,
and it is inherently understood that “controlling climate change” means bigger, more intrusive and collectivist forms of government.

From the actual report cited...

“Americans rank climate change last on a list of important issues. Only five percent of Americans
say climate change is the most important issue facing the U.S. today. The issue of climate change
ranks behind the lack of jobs (22%), the increasing gap between rich and poor (18%), health care
(17%), the budget deficit (13%), immigration reform (10%), and the rising cost of education (9%).

When asked which environmental problem is most important for the current administration to tackle, nearly 3-in-10 (29%) Americans point to air, water, and soil pollution. One-quarter (25%) of Americans say climate change is the most pressing environment problem, while a similar number (23%)identify water shortages and drought. Fewer Americans cite the shrinking of wilderness areas andanimal habitats (11%) or endangered species (4%) as the most critical environmental issue.”
