Chris Rock explained in a lengthy interview Sunday that he believes part of healing racial relations in America is by white people owning the actions of their ancestors.
The black comedian told New York magazines Frank Rich that racial progress in America is nonsense and that the only thing thats changed is white people arent as crazy as they used to be. When we talk about race relations in America or racial progress, its all nonsense, Mr. Rock said. There are no race relations. White people were crazy. Now theyre not as crazy. To say that black people have made progress would be to say they deserve what happened to them before.
Mr. Rich asked the comedian if white people are adjusting to a new reality?
Owning their actions. Not even their actions. The actions of your dad, Mr. Rock said. Yeah, its unfair that you can get judged by something you didnt do, but its also unfair that you can inherit money that you didnt work for.
When asked for his thoughts on President Obama, Mr. Rock said, Everybody wanted Michael Jordan, right? We got Shaq.

Cris should own the actions of his contemporaries.
I will own the actions of my ancestors after Chris Rock owns the actions of his ancestors. Where by “ancestors” I suspect Chris Rock does not mean the actual people from whom I am descended, but people who look like those people. After all, almost all of the black slaves who were shipped to America were sold into slavery by other of his “ancestors”.
Since most blacks die at the hands of other blacks, what does that make them?
Crazy animals?
My ancestors came here from Italy.... LEGALLY. I don’t need to own $h!#
Rock just turned himself into Tyler Perry - a black performer who only has a black audience. He’s dead to me.
How about you stop focusing on the past and let it go. Then, maybe you could step on into 2014 and, how do you say it? "Move On"?
For what it's worth, many of the White People you speak of look back at ancestors who never had slaves and instead went to fight and die in order to abolish slavery and keep the country together.
Only to now have people like you stir up crap all these years later in order to tear the country apart.
Good luck answering for that. Bet you can't and you WILL regret what you're doing now...so STOP!
Burn for truth now, Chris, not those lies that divide, and you won't burn for eternity once your time in the matrix is up.
And very probably they elected a “Black” President whose direct line comes from those Africans who sold other blacks into slavery. There is a tenuous connection to slaves through his white mother which is an irony.

Does he mean our ancestors who struggled, worked, fought and died to build America?
Just as we do today?
The same America where modern black Americans, who can barely speak intelligibly, sit on their butts collecting freebies, pumping out illegitimate babies, smoking crack and cursing the white man while they enjoy more freedom and a much higher standard of living than 99% of the other blacks on the planet?
Here is a wonderful refutation of the reparations nonsense—published at the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg and applicable to anyone with Union army ancestry:
One hundred fifty years ago this nation was in the throes of a great civil war, to borrow words spoken by President Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg on November 18.
Using only 272 words, the 16th President stirred the hears and minds of this nation for generations. In tribute to these events, the York Daily Record invited the community to write about something related to Gettysburg with the same number of words. My offering was published almost coinicidental with the anniversary of the raid on Hanover Junction:
Recently June Lloyd revealed an ugly truth of our history in a column entitled Slavery happened in York County too. It was a truth which I long known, for, like thousands of other York Countians I am descended from George Charles Carl Emig (1760-1824) who was a slave holder.
I discovered that truth on page 4 of a paper authored by the late Dr. Charles Glatfelter entitled Honoring the family of Felix Glatfelder (1747-1815). He wrote: The Emigs were among the large landholders of early Codorus township...The tax list for 1799 indicated something quite unusual for a York county German: Charles Emig owned one slave.
My Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather, John Philip Glatfelter married Carl Emigs daughter Anna Mary. Two of his brothers, Daniel and Casper, married Emig sisters Margaret and Mary Magdalena, respectively. Among the noteworthy descendants of John and Anna Mary are P.H. Glatfelter, founder of the Spring Grove paper mill, and the recently deceased Governor George Leader.
Descendants of Daniel and Margaret Emig Glatfelter include one sixth of the Baptized members of the Lutheran congregation which I have been privileged to serve—as well as recently deceased historian Dr. Charles Glatfelter.
Through the research of Pat Smith 78 descendants of Casper Glattfelder have been identified as having served in the Union army. Five of them gave their last full measure of devotion in battle or in prison camps.
There has been heated discussion in recent years concerning reparations owed by the descendants of slaveowners to the descendants of slaves. Glattfelder-Emig descendants can and should assert that their alleged debt was paid in full at Andersonville, Bull Run, Missionary Ridge, Cedar Creek, and Gaines Mills.
It was for this reason that as we approached the sesquicentennial of the battle of Gettysburg and considered our familys role in the four year conflict that I decided to purchase two bricks for the patio which would identify the Emig spouses as the daughters of a slaveholder.
For those of us on the northern side of the Mason-Dixon it is all too easy to subcumb to a feeling of self-righteousness about our Army of the Potomac connections; a feeling which could greatly diminish sympathy for the staggering losses suffered by the southern branch of our family.
Those losses were set vividly before us in the Reunion program. Through the research of Pat Smith we have learned of 5 Union casualties among the 78 who served—a rate of 6 percent. But our southern cousins suffered 65 casualties among the 215 who served—a rate of 30 percent. In some cases there were multiple casualites with the same last name from the same regiment; presumably brothers, near cousins, or even father and son. My eyes were very moist as I typed that ponderous list.
If they were on the wrong side of history, so were many of us Yankees, at least for some period of time. Contemplating this in all humility, may we—again to borrow the words of Lincoln—experience a new birth of freedom and commit ourselves anew to seeking liberty and justice for all.
Chris Rock, I own the actions of my ancestors.
The Roman Empire, the Pax Romana, Venetian sea traders, immigrant builders of America, fighters of WW2.
What do you have, funny man?
Most white people in America today are descendants of people who arrived after the Civil War.
Then he can own the actions of all the black slave traders in Africa who made black slavery possible by going where no white man could go. He’s saying we should judge whites not by the content of their character but by actions others took before we were born and not even in our family blood line all based on race. He’s NUTS.
We didn't get Shaq, we got a homosexual Dennis Rodman.
My ancestors were railroad and mining folk in West Virginia who were dirt-poor and could never have conceivably owned slaves.
You’re welcome.
It’s very white here in North Idaho, and I’m not talking about the snow. There is far less tension although we certainly have our own criminals.
” but its also unfair that you can inherit money that you didnt work for. “
You mean like your kids will, idiot.
My ancestors were not English slave owners, they were dirt poor Irish fleeing the English (at least they weren’t captured, arrested and sold as slaves, as there were more Irish slaves sent to the new world than Africans)
and Germans who sold themselves into 7 years of indentured servitude to get here away from feudalism
Within a generation they were fighting the American Revolution
and every war America fought since then
I am proud to own their sacrifices, though I don’t deserve them
Mister Rock is like so very many people who let out the clutch of their tongues before ensuring that the engines of their brains are actually in gear.
It is for this reason that I try (often failing, I am ashamed to admit) to not publically speak of such matters without first thinking my position through. You see, I absolutely detest being taken for a fool.
