White House says it would veto Tea Party legislation defunding Obama's immigration orders
The London Daily Mail ^ | December 1, 2014 | Francesca Chambers

* MailOnline exclusively obtained a draft copy of the legislation under consideration by conservatives in the House
* It says 'no part of any appropriation,' including 'funds or fees collected' can be used by 'any agency to implement' Obama's immigration directives
* House Republicans will discuss the legislation at a closed-door meeting tomorrow on Capitol Hill
* The language could be part of a must-pass bill that would keep the government's doors open beyond next Thursday
* The White House reiterated its preference today that Congress pass a yearlong appropriations bill

The White House said on Monday that it would veto a bill baring federal agencies from using their funds to implement President Barack Obama's immigration actions if conservatives in Congress successfully pushed it through.

The spokesperson for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue had been hesitant in the past to say outright that Obama would veto such legislation if it were to pass, but with the proposal gaining steam, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters today that the president would send the bill back to Congress should it land on his desk.

The veto threat comes as a group of conservative House members reviewed specific language they want inserted in an upcoming spending bill prohibiting the Department of Homeland Security from using any funds whatsoever to the distribution of work permits and green cards for the roughly five million illegal immigrants Obama has instructed the agency to stop deporting....

Please explain to me why we have to rely on London and Paris for so much of the news of what's going on here in the United States.

“Please explain to me why we have to rely on London and Paris for so much of the news of what’s going on here in the United States.”

I feel like other countries have to do the same with their press (although I don’t know for sure). Probably because they don’t truly have a dog in our fights.

The press in other countries isn't as enamored of Obama as our slobbering news media is.

Occasionally, I'll watch TV news from the UK, Germany and other countries. These countries barely mention Obama and when they do, there is this undercurrent of derision. They think he's an idiot and they don't seem to think it's necessary to waste time on him.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that. I read dozens and sometimes hundreds of articles a day and the writing, on average, is MUCH BETTER from Europe and Asia.

They think he’s an idiot? They should know by now that he is an idiot.

I think this is hogwash.

The defund comes only after a number of successful signed funding bills are passed - not first.

Fund the Dep of Defense, national parks, and several other popular parts of government before doing DHS with the defund.

Also, Beohner does not want to use this strategy. How did a draft copy get out? Who wanted it out? .... doubts....

There he goes, again---thwarting the will of the people.

=================================================

FREEPER EDWIN LAND INSIGHTFULLY POSTED: Obama has established that it is okay for the president to overreach.

Ergo, then it's okay for Congress to overreach.

Obama's temporary amnesty E/O requires temporary suspension of the rule. That could include Congress passing laws without the president signing off on it.

The Congress should thoughtfully remind Obama that the Congress---and we Americans---can also say, “We have been patient.”

“Beohner does not want to use this strategy.”

Bonehead does nt wish to use any strategy which would over turn what the POS did.

One sticking point in any plan, and one that makes Obola’s veto threat a joke is nothing is going to get past Weed, er Reid.

Republicans have many options at their disposal.

Because "THE PRESIDENT SAID" he's encouraging illegals hiding in the shadows---including criminals----to come forward to fill out APPLICATIONS for temporary residency.

The "compassionate" Obama govt will record all their information including documents from their homelands: copies of their matricular cards, passports, names of family members, number of children, places of residence in the USA, as well as in their homelands, including full biometrics, fingerprints, DNA etc. etc. etc.....

"THE PRESIDENT SAID" illegals should give federal operatives and agencies all their relevant info so that 5 million illegals "could come out of the shadows and stay." (sniffle)

All that info can be data-mined w/ existing federal and state info. There we will find:

Multiple identities,

voting registrations,

multiple SS nos, multiple drivers' licenses,

multiple EBT cards,

EITC applications,

real estate holdings here, and in their homelands,

investment accounts,

American Express platinum cards,

bank accounts,

bank cards,

debit cards,

wire-transfers to offshore banks,

memberships in violent organizations advocating the overthrow of the US govt.......

etc, etc, etc, and so on and forth, ad infinitum, ad nauseaum.

=============================================

Republicans should ask Obama---does he really want to fund illegals who are murderers, rapists, pedophiles, thieves and drug dealers, and those who are advocating the overthrow of the US govt?

You're right of course - the current Congress must pass only enough funding to get us to the new Congress. THEN we still have some power. But if the do a long term thing bleeeechhhhh.... call your rep. !!!

I definitely like this Liz. Being law-followers, this type of action does not occur to us too often. But wouldn't that be nice?

Beohner and McConnell doing a joint press conference on Keystone... "we've waited 1874 days. It's time for us to make this happen. We declare the pipeline approved as of now."

Just doing that makes the point well that 0bama over-reached badly. I like it Liz.

Glad you liked it.

Obama should also be reminded----our constitution specifically requires that the branches be "co-equal."

It then follows, that if Obama grabs more power, then the Congress can respond in a "co-equal" manner.

The House has the purse strings. They don’t need to pass legislation to defund something. The House can do it unilaterally.

It doesn’t have to pass the Senate. The President does not get a chance to veto it.

The House acts. It’s a done deal.

We have the majority in the House. It’s over any time Boehner can muster the courage to do something, anything...

You all know what he can do with those pens don’t you?
-post his NCAA Basketball brackets
-add pop and chips to the grocery list
-flip the pen in the air, just right, so it sticks into the ceiling tile
-play x’s and o’s
-write on the wall
-sign for incoming UPS parcels’s

anyone else care to add to the above list??

Obama's temporary amnesty E/O requires temporary suspension of the rule. That could include Congress passing laws without the president signing off on it.

Such a rule has always existed. Should a bill go to the President for signature but not be acted upon, either Vetoed or signed within a specified time, (30 days I think) the legislation becomes law without Presidential signature.

Since executive orders are brand new, I don’t think his plans have been funded. Congress doesn’t have to do anything to de-fund them.
