Nine years ago Eaker & I were talking about what a wonderful person TexasCowboy was and what poopheads his children were. We both agreed that it would be a damn shame to let the memory of him lapse. Three or four times a year TexasCowboy would host shoots at various ranges across Texas. After everyone was finished shooting, he would then serve up a yummy lunch. It was while Eaker & I were talking that I came up with the (rare brilliant) idea of continuing what he started, but to do this in his memory. This is how the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot was born.
2015 will mark the 10th Annual Memorial Shoot! I could not be more proud of how this event has blossomed throughout the years. The following phrase has been spoken at every shoot, except the first one, This is the best shoot weve had!.
Get ready to speak those words again . . .
The 10th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot will be held June 6th, 2015 at Schwenkes Rifle Range in Aransas Pass. This is a private range, but I was once again able to sweet talk Mr. Schwenke to let us use his range (OK maybe it wasnt so much the sweet talk as it was he saw how much extra money he could make for the day). The cost is $15.00/adult. We have the 25 yard range reserved for us, but will be allowed to use the other ranges ~ as long as we blend in and are respectful to the members. The shoot will start at 10:00 am. Ill have waivers for everyone to sign, and will collect your fee with the waivers to turn in all at one time. This year we will not meet as a group for breakfast before heading to the range.
If cpdiii is able to make it to the shoot he will provide lunch, otherwise we will have BBQ catered in (which will cost about $8.00/person ~ havent priced that yet).
I have reserved a block of 15 cottages at Pelican Bay Resorts ~ http://www.pelicanbayresort.com/ ~ for June 4th 6th. To reserve a cottage call (Toll Free) 866-729-7177 or 361-729-7177, let them know you are with the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot group. Our group will receive a discount on the price quoted on their website. The club house rents for $150.00 for four hours, I reserved Friday and Saturday nights ~ I cant remember the start times, but we have to be out of there by 10:00 pm both nights. The lady I spoke with said we could probably use the club house for free, depending on how many cottages we actually rent.
For those arriving Thursday night dinner will be at Captain Bennys ~ this is subject to change. The Friday night dinner is yet to be determined. Saturday night will be easy stuff ~ appetizers and chips & dip type stuff. There are a few months yet to figure all that out.
Everyone get your vacation requests in early. Really look forward to seeing everyone in June!
Hold on a tick....
I’ll be sure to click on your blog and to share your blog with everyone on my address list and tell all of them to e-mail a link to your blog to 20 people within five minutes (or risk 7 years of bad luck).
What?
Wait...
You got a blog???
Who knew?
Yup.
It’s the bestest blog ever too.
So good I almost read it once............
Abusing the ping list for some cuteness . . .
Our grandson playing with a fish at the Rockport Aquarium.
Precious! :-)
Oh my gosh how can he possibly be that old? Very cute video -
ha!
What are you lookin’ at?
Pretty cool..!!
That footage is so precious! What a smart boy, and what a smart
little fish, too. It’s amazing. Thanks for the chance to see it again.
I was thinking the same thing...
I also thought I just experienced seeing a bright light...;-)
Cute...
BTW, I got to thinkin’, yeah, I know, scary...;-)
Mr. Schwenke is a pretty good olé boy, but I remember last time I was there, he really didn’t like how I “blended in”...
I kinda sorta caused a disturbance in the force during the shoot...;-)
Do you think I can bring “Shaft” again??? I know Humble likes to shoot it...
I think that Shaft was frowned upon.
Also frowned upon were reactive targets and even lemons tossed downrange.
Me, I reckon we ought to shoot for the goal of not pissing off brer Schwenke.
Because we're nice folks, mostly.
I dunno what “Shaft” could have possibly done to the owner of that facility...
And if I recall, I believe we asked if it was ok, and he said yeah...But I guess reality and the BOOM might have surprised a few squeamish people there...
I agree, it should not be in our charter to pizz off the boss...
Shame...TC loved his .50, what memories...;-)
I will endeavor to be nice and accommodating, polite and respectful between the hours of 7am and 7:30am...I cannot guarantee civility outside of those parameters...
For the folks in Texas.
If you haven’t done so already, please reach out to your legislative critters and ask them to support SB-11 & HB-937 (campus carry).
There also HB-910 & SB-17 (open carry).
LOL - stevie_d’, you ARE a bright light (at least in the liberal wave engulfing our nation).
‘gunner, any blog of yours is BY DEFINITION the bestest ever.
My apologies to both of you for the delay in responding - I’ve been under seige by Montezuma’s Revenge (and I haven’t been to Mexico in over 30 years). Dr. says it’s probably food poisoning (no, not Blue Bell). Can’t pinpoint the source for sure, but I think it might have been the local Waffle House (never again, ugh).
uh,oh - gotta run, no really, gotta run.
SB 11, passed in Senate (3/19), on to the House (3/20)...
SB 17, passed in the Senate (3/17), House received (3/18)...
HB 910, placed on the General Senate Calendar (4/14), took 6 days for this to occur during “consideration”...This means the House is ok with the issue, but time is not on our side if the Senate drags its heels...
The big hangup, someone had a bright idea that somehow this Open Carry issue may have an economic impact on the state...Some Chambers of Commerce’s and big business owners lobbyists thought that by personal businesses preemption if this becomes law would reduce their patronages enough to keep the State of Texas from sales tax revenue or something to that effect...
HB 937, Substituted in Committee (considered) “favorably” (3/31), IMO this bill is stalled...
So overall, IMO, The Campus Carry, and OC issues are progressing, but time is NOT on our side...
But, you never know...Pressuring the peckerwoods in Austin may bring it forward in the process...
I just hate for issues like this that have been in work for 2-3 sessions in Austin over the last 6-8 years to continue to die inside the process, and not have their full day on the floor for a vote, up or down, that is the way this needs to be resolved...
But I may take one more trip to Austin before things wrap up, to shake up what and where I can this session...
There are a few other things besides gun issues that need goosing as well...
Guess it might be time to think about knocking the rust
off some of these dangerous guns..
Scary, loud guns.. with rust...
Man, that just ain’t safe...
