My wife has already told me not to even think about the idea of going back into the Navy (unfortunately, I think at this stage, the Navy would be even more emphatic about saying no!)
OMG She is good Sheila LOL!
And the Australian Navy has a proud heritage of getting into the fight!
She's big - but it can be overstated and some of these articles seem to be giving the impression she's much bigger than she is.
Rule Britannia (in whatever guise she may be).
Like intercepting illegal boat people and turning them back.
One of the 'lost verses' of Australia's National Anthem (part of the original song, not included in the official anthem).
I hope the chicoms are taking notice.
No - although to be honest I prefer it to the designs we had when I started. I wonder if there’s any pictures of that godawful pattern online.
In this case, I’m pretty sure the sheets and covers are sailor supplied - and if you sign up to serve your country, I don’t care what sheets you choose.
Bear in mind, junior sailors really are still kids (18 before they go to sea, nowadays - legal adults, yeah, but still kids).
Huzzah, huzzah!
The only thing I can see from the pictures is a large flat sided ship. Looks like the Chinese (or any other aggressor) will have no problem with their radars locking on with any cruise missile getting an easy lock on with even primitive radar targeting systems.
Bye, bye, time assured in any conflict. Or is that wrong? Do they have a decent defense system? No phalanx guns obvious...
Will primarily rely on escorts - we have new Air Warfare Destroyers coming online over the next few years, until then some of our frigates will no the jobs.
But it has machine guns and 25mm close defence systems - and there’s potential to install more than that as well, in the future.
You're right. My niece probably did the same. She was 18 when she signed up in the Navy. Said she got a lot of razzing from guys calling her an Oompa Loopa because she was short, but she served our country regardless. That was maybe 15 years ago, the experience helped her immensely, she's now a RN.
A proud day for our Australian allies - or at least they used to be until owebama got pizzed about Tony Abbott’s realistic stance on the false god of global warming/climate change.
We’ve really, REALLY got to rid ourselves of this azzhole.
It would be a shame if the Aus. citizens paid 1.5 B for a future reef, even if it makes for great homes for the fishes.
The individualized bedding makes it easier to find your bunk.
Three cheers from me. Any good thing our Aussie brothers do is good news.

How well I know, I was “Owned” by the US Navy at the age of 16, I turned 17 in basic training and was serving aboard an old Fletcher class DD shortly there after.
I joined the RAN in the early ‘70s when they still took in ‘boys’ for officer training (Cadet Midshipman) and into the enlisted ranks as well (Junior Recruits). Was only 15 (and that was an increase in age - most of the men I served under had joined at 13.) Changed in the 1980s (although you can still join a little before you turn 18 - the UN lumps us in with the places in Africa that have child soldiers because of that).
