Yeah, Nimitz class ~5500, but it carries a modern air wing.
Looked up the Essex class, and say ~3100 with ~100 aircraft.
The US equivalent to the Canberra is a Wasp class LHD, about a third more displacement, and 4X the crew, and more aircraft.
And landing ships...
