Immediately, I’d say no. All of the illegals that are here and WANTING to work probably are already.
The real harm will occur when more come, in addition to those already here. We shouldn’t allow ANY immigration while the REAL unemployment rate is ‘high’(someone smarter than I am can establish that metric).
I know there are ‘smart’ people overseas that may be uniquely qualified to fill certain jobs, but I’m SURE there are many Americans that can fill those jobs too. During bad economic conditions, is the time to be a bit ‘protectionist’ when it comes to our people and jobs.
I tend to lean libertarian on many issues too, but sometimes you have to take care of your OWN as a country, when it comes to policies like immigration. If you don’t, then why do you even have a ‘country’, or even borders, for that matter?
Why aren't the other countries taking care of their own? Why don't THEY work on providing employment and "welfare" and bozocare for their own citizens?
Why must America take care of foreigners when her own people are suffering?
The 2014 immigration is very different from the immigration of the 1950's. People back then were scared that they might be sent back to their countries. They also did their best to adapt to their new land.
Seriously, why do we need passports and visas anymore?
