You forgot the nap ;’)
I doubt it, but let's just grant that for the sake of argument. The passions of their critics are rooted in something just as real: half a century of parasitism, exploitation, reverse discrimination, and fear. Why is it that after more than 50 years of elevating blacks at the expense of whites, blacks still get to claim victim status? Why is it that, in the whole, their lot has not greatly improved? Why is it that the pernicious effects of segregation, hate, and hopelessness still permeate the self-imposed enclaves of blacks?
Because for half a century it's been too easy to turn to the white man and ask what HE'S going to do about racism.
Maybe it's time to turn the question around, and ask blacks what THEY'RE going to do. If Ferguson is any indication, the fears whites have about blacks is well founded.
Mike Brown was either so arrogant and/or so stupid that, seconds after committing a strong-arm robbery, he drew attention to himself by sauntering down the middle of the street and then refusing to walk on the sidewalk despite Wilson’s very reasonable request to do so.
They got it partly correct.
Laws aren't enforces uniformly. If you are a politician, a cop or an illegal alien, you get a different standard.
It has nothing to do with color.
In other words, they want Affirmative Action treatment under the law.
Blacks are being replaced by Hispanics in this country, and their supporting the outrageous behavior of thugs is enabling it.
Probably a combination.
Brown evidently had a preset hostility to storekeepers who are smaller than him. And paying for things.
Awesome.
She calls it like it is. But speaks their lingo.
The complicated part is how the "protesters" are still being allowed to wreak mayhem with what is close to impunity.
It is true. Blacks do not react emotionally to black on black killing (except of course the relatives of the victims). This is because young black males have almost no sense of real self worth and project that worthlessness on their victims especially if they look like them.
The welfare state has had devastating effect on black culture.
Both were black teens living on public assistance
Both had attitudes that reflected a culture of badass ghetto culture.
Both screwed with people with guns.
Both were memorialized with fictional (semi-heroic) stories of their demise that were later countered with facts that proved the stories false.
If I hear the word “tragedy” applied to this case once more, I’ll scream! A cop offed a thug and we are all safer for it. Especially grocery store owners.
I believe that you are right on point to an unspoken reality.
It begets the question of how does a society deal with a population where the median IQ is 80? Which is borderline retarded by most metrics. Further, that 90% of that population is within a single Standard Deviation of that point, and is significantly (20 points) below the median for the majority population.
The fundamental problem is that the majority of the reproducers of that population are at the median IQ who produce more like them at the median or below.
Nonsense.
Jonah, you’re not a bad sort but take your beltway drivel and put it where....well, you know.
As I read this article and the replies, I can’t help but think of the numerous times I have had to sit through employer mandated “Cultural Diversity” (or some such) training. The typical narrative goes something like this. If a white person acts on a preconceived opinion of a minority, he/she is ignorant, uninformed, and his/her actions are unacceptable. But in the next sentence we are informed that we must change the way we interact with the minorities, allow them to display their prejudice because their bigotry is based on legitimate perception of inequality. I agree, it is high time we stop coddling black racism.
This is a bunch of mumbo-jumbo BS from Jonah Goldberg’s keyboard.
He can do better.
for later
Ferguson too easy for complicated allegory is more like it.
I thought we were a nation of laws and not of men. Why can't criminal events be treated like criminal events rather than as episodes in some supposed battle for rights or dignity?
There is no bigger picture here. There are just bigger egos that trotted into town and blew everything out of proportion.
