Nearly one in five U.S. households will celebrate Thanksgiving on food stamps this year, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on participation in the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program.
Back in fiscal 2000, there were 106,061,000 households in the United States and, according to a USDA report published in November 2012, there was a monthly average of 7,335,000 householdsor 6.9 percentgetting food stamps that year.
As of this August, according to the most recent data released by USDA, there were 22,729,389 households on food stamps. That equaled 19.75 percent of 115,048,000 households in the country at that time.
In each of the two previous fiscal years, the percentage of American households on food stamps in the average was near 20 percent, hitting 19.4 percent in 2012, 20.4 percent in 2013.
As of August, according to the Department of Agriculture, there were 46,484,828 individuals in the food stamp program.
How many are going to food banks and shelters to eat?
The food stamp program has become a federal scam. Push people off unemployment rolls and onto welfare programs, disability, etc.
When my unemployment ran out (never paid even 52 consecutive weeks, let alone 99) I didn’t apply for the other government programs that were suggested to me by officials. I cashed out my retirement account.
I’m not saying that people don’t need money to make ends meet, this government has been running a shellgame with the numbers and expanded the number of people covered by these programs while claiming the economy has improved under Emperor Obama.t apply for the other government programs that were suggested to me by officials. I cashed out my retirement account.
I
After Hurricane Katrina I applied for food stamps my one and only time. I was laughed out of the building.
No Thanksgiving for me...have to work 12 hours.
When the War on Poverty began, only a single welfare programAid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC)assisted single parents.
Today, dozens of programs provide benefits to families with children, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) food program, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), food stamps, child nutrition programs, public housing and Section 8 housing, and Medicaid. Although married couples with children can also receive aid through these programs, the overwhelming majority of assistance to families with children goes to single-parent households.
If you go into the jungle and slap a big sign on your a$$ that says ‘LEECHES WELCOME,’ guess what’s going to latch onto your a$$?
Well, Happy Thanksgiving! Get off the cross. We need the wood. Thank You.
If the food stamp program ended, I bet you the price of food would come down. Simple economics.
Same here bro, same here, but not Katrina.
I was helping folks then.
I bet the obamas will be eating well...very well.
Give incentive for the baby-daddies to be held at bay rather than raising their kids.
Forget real men, women can just marry big government!

Ha, good one...
Happy Thanksgiving, Dallas59.
Thanksgiving? I’m working a who knows how many hours hour shift from thanksgiving afternoon until the day after late morning or early afternoon.
My wife... Working early afternoon Thanksgiving until sometime into the night.
Must be nice to recieve tax payer funds (part of our pay checks) to pay for all your stuff and get Holidays off because you don’t work.
Middle class Thanksgiving continues to erode.
When I became disabled and could no longer work, I took early retirement. If I’d gone onto SSD I would have lost my health insurance and been forced onto Medicare. No way.
So, I took about half of what I would have received in retirement than if I’d been able to work out my last five years. So far, it’s worked out. Inflation isn’t helping matters, though.
Something for the Liar in Chief to be proud of!
