Not exactly accurate. Jim Crow laws existed all over the country and were passed by a variety of political parties. And not just in the South, the North had plenty of its own Jim Crow laws that rarely get mentioned.
Lincoln’s own Illinois had one of the harshest black codes in the country, blacks being in the state more than 10 days were subject to arrest. Indiana outright banned blacks from the state. Even abolitionists were split on the issue, some wanting equality with whites and others wanting to ship blacks out of the country.
