Pharrell Williams, one of the biggest black figures in the music industry, has spoken out about the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, saying he is 'troubled' a grand jury decided not to indict the white police officer responsible.
But the 'Happy' singer also sparked outrage from his fans by calling Brown's behavior leading up to his August 9 death 'bully-ish'.
Before he was shot dead, Brown was caught on surveillance camera stealing a handful of cigarillos from a convenience store in Ferguson, Missouri, and intimidating the shop owner.
While Pharrell says that was no excuse for Officer Darren Wilson to use lethal force against the unarmed teen, he thinks Brown's actions are being overlooking in the national discussion about the tragedy.
'It looked very bully-ish; that in itself I had a problem with,' Pharrell told Ebony magazine. 'Not with the kid, but with whatever happened in his life for him to arrive at a place where that behavior is OK. Why aren't we talking about that?'
'The boy was walking in the middle of the street when the police supposedly told him to get the f*** on the sidewalk. If you dont listen to that, after just having pushed a storeowner, youre asking for trouble,' he added.
However, Pharrell said that Brown's behavior in the convenience store did not warrant his death, and that he believes Officer Wilson should have been charged in the death.
After the story was published on Tuesday, fans took to Twitter to express to vent their frustration over Pharrell's comments.
One Twitter user said: 'Mike Brown was a bully says Pharrell Williams. So do we get a pass to shoot bullies in society? Way to go Pharrell.'

For a second there I thought you weren't a moron.
“Pharrell Williams”
Who?
A rational thinker. How refreshing.
i think it is fair to question the use of deadly force. Could Wilson have just injured him? But I do think the facts and the speed with which it all happened left Wilson no choice but to shoot to stop him before he could grab Wilson’s gun again.
Everyone keeps saying Brown was unarmed but they ignore that he was trying to become armed by stealing the officer’s gun. That is the KEY factor, imo.
It wasn’t his theft that caused his death. It was his attack on a police officer. And you can blame his thuggish behavior on 5 decades of liberal policies that destroyed the black family.
Too "Hollywood". In real life if you fire your weapon you fire to stop the assailant, you do not shoot to kill or shoot to "wing".
He did just injure him, with the first ten shots or so! Needed a bigger gun. The last shot to the head took Brown down, just in time as Brown got closer and closer to Wilson.
It took 3 officers to beat down Rodney King hyped up on PCP who kept getting
up and wouldn’t stop resting arrest.
How does any officer know if he is dealing with that kind of force from a man
that kept on coming after 11 rounds were were fired at him? The 12th round
was necessary.
Of course the media never showed that part of the tape.
Hey Ferrule:
He got thuggish with the cop, tried to kill him. Guess what happens when you do that.
Add half who are destroyed in the womb.
I only said it was fair to ask the question. If anyone read the rest of what I said they would see I said the same thing everyone else is saying.
Thought I was confirming that.
HOORAY Pharrell Williams! Thank you, sir.

Singer with the Beverly Hillbillies hat.
Mayor Daley once nailed it. He said something like “shoot to wound looters” and followed that up with “shoot to kill arsonists”.
That was his instructions to his Chicago cops back in 1968 at the Democratic Convention.
“Bully-ish behavior ..... was asking for trouble.”
The gentle giant is clearly quite sincerely dead-ish.
