The old New Orleans States-Item was a better paper back in the day. The trashy T-P bought it and absorbed it. Yep. My parents, aunts and uncles all had daily subscriptions to the Item and Sunday-only delivery of the Times-Spittoon (mostly for the Sunday-only ads, inserts and "funny pages").
