Senator Chuck Schumer of New York said Tuesday that he and his fellow Democrats made a mistake in pursuing health care legislation that eventually became Obamacare. Bloomberg Politics's Kathleen Hunter has the story:
“Unfortunately, Democrats blew the opportunity the American people gave them” in electing Obama and a Democratic Congress in 2008 amid a national recession, Schumer of New York said in a speech in Washington. “We took their mandate and put all our focus on the wrong problem -- health care reform.”
Democrats should have addressed issues aiding the middle class to build confidence among voters before turning to the health-care system overhaul, Schumer said. He spoke at the National Press Club to analyze the results of this month’s election, when Republicans took control of the Senate and increased their majority in the House of Representatives.
Schumer also said Democrats should "embrace government" in order to win future elections. Watch the whole speech here, courtesy of C-SPAN.

The never addressed the problems we had. They swept them under a rug and just went straight to doing their agenda.
Did they fix Wall Street? How many of them ended up in jail because of our justice department? 0?
The way I read it, he believes their mistake was tackling ObamaCare before the citizens in this country had been more fully indoctrinated to trust government. In other words, he is sorry they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. He definitely NOT disavowing his preference for single payer health insurance.

I suspect Barry didn’t hear a thing she said b/c he was too busy listening to his own voice and those of the 2/3 that didn’t vote. Some dems are just figuring out that Barry is not only toxic but completely radioactive and glowing white hot....and he doesn’t care. he’s so bitter and small that his recklessness will be his undoing as well as all those around him. LOL, Dinghy Harry could have hardly guessed that his nuclear option had legs....
I wonder if the Dems finally realize how out of control Obozo really is.

Because based on what has happened in the three weeks since the election, we will not make it through the next 26 months of Emperor Barack the First’s reign.
It seems he acknowledges that Americans have finally woken up to the meaning of Socialism.
While the article is thin on detail, I don’t read any regret in his statement. It appears he just would have just sequenced Big Government intervention differently, arriving a Obamacare later after other Big Government programs were passed first. In other words, the law itself, in his mind, isn’t bad. As a typical leftist he won’t admit to any ideological failing, only a failing of strategy.

And in case you haven’t figured it out yet, the stupid people who needed to be lied to about Obamacare were Democrats in the legislature. No one else was going to vote for it.

Instead, under Obama, for two terms, the economy floundered. And now, the bills for Obamacare are just hitting the public.
About the only saving grace has been the appearance that inflation is low. In actually, inflation has been happening, for example, in foods with product shrinkages and price increases. But, food and fuel inflation are not included the the ‘official’ figures.
Conversely, the low interest rates have caused problems for retirees who intended to use the interest on their savings. Most would drool to get 8% on their funds; ironically, in the late 1990s, that 8% was considered low-moderate. Now, few interest-bearing accounts even pay 1%.
Those low interest rates are another way the FED hides the cost of government.
How could they have done that when so much of their base lives for "revenge" against the white middle class? Everyone from black radicals to young white progressives mad at their parents would have risen up in volcanic fury.
No, "free health care" was what their base was demanding at the time, and though Obamacare's implementation was a predictable disaster it cannot be argued that the Democrats did exactly what their voters wanted.

This is BS. All he’s saying is that the Democrats should have spent a little more time bamboozling the public before screwing them.
6 years later? 6 friggin’ years later!!!!! 6 years of ChuckU Schumer calling the Tea Party racist, the opponents of Obama haters, everything opposed to his agenda of the minute never, ever had a legitimate reason for opposition. They were just bigots or obstructionists. Chuckie Schmuckie has really earned his name this time.
Schumer operates from a Senate seat which is a citadel of Marxist/leftist ideology utterly free of any fear of losing the next election and he is commensurately free to push his ideology opportunistically.
It is unwise to underestimate Charles Schumer.
