GOP leaders uniting around plan to avoid shutdown

House Republican leaders are beginning to coalesce around a strategy to avoid a government shutdown in less than a month. The likely proposal would fund nearly the entire government through September 2015, but immigration enforcement related funding would be renewed on a short-term basis, according to several high-ranking GOP lawmakers and aides who described the plan as it stands now.

As long as we keep re-electing Establishment Republicans

Next chance is less than 2 years away! Remember kiddos, vote Republican, because they're "better" than Democrats!

Boehner and McConnell have no desire to relive the October 2013 government shutdown

You can’t really blame them, if they actually did take control, and Shut Down the Bloated Government, they would more than likely be given a 2/3 plus majority in Both Houses of Congress and maybe even the White House in 2016. That would make the Demonrats look bad.

Sounds pathetically weak. And yet the so-called guy on our side wanted McConnell back in the senate and not Matt Bevin. They wanted Boehner and not his challenger who former talk show host Rusty Humphries had been funding and helping out. I don’t remember the candidates name.

The solution is actually easier than everyone thinks (of course, everything is easy to the person who doesn't have to do it).

Instead of passing a continuing resolution through the end of the year, pass one through then end of January. Then, once the new Congress takes office, pass 11 of the 12 spending bills - the House has already passed 7 or 8, so just use those. Once the 11 are passed (only Homeland Security not passed), defund the executive amnesty program ("no funds authorized in this or any appropriations bills can be used to provide green cards to persons not legally in the US" - or something like that).

If Democrats in the Senate filibuster the bill, they would have to justify holding up funding for "vital" parts of the Department of Homeland Security to provide money for illegal aliens. If enough vote to get it through, it goes to the President.

If the President signs it, part of the problem solved. If the President vetoes it, he has to justify spending money on illegal aliens. In either case, there is no government shutdown - even if the Dept of Homeland Security shuts down, the vital parts of it won't shut down (ICE, Coast Guard, etc.), since they are not subject to shut down.

The most vital part of this strategy is DON'T talk about it to the press - don't even tell your allies. If the liberals in the media know about it, they can start to find ways to spin it as Republicans being mean.

I like the idea about not inviting Obama to give the State of the Union in January!! That would be the ultimate insult....together with making the history books.

In all reality, I have no doubt that there were very serious discussions amongst the leaders about whether or not dumping the tea was best for the rebellion. Just because there isn’t a lot of discussion about it in the histories written afterwards, the Founding Fathers sure discussed and argued about everything else.

These guys were brain-dead to get stuck with the label of “shut down” anyway. They presented a budget, and the DEMOCRATS refused to pass it. The DEMOCRATS shut the governmet down.

The media picked up the meme, and these idiots were too busy drinking bourbon and branch water with their lobbist buddies to intellegently refute it, and got swept away with the storm.

They're too busy along with the rest of the GOP-e licking obama’s and reid’s boots to be worried about such things, and all along begging for the occasional scrap of meat from the dem feeding frenzy.

Spineless sniveling weasels, the whole lot of them. We should fence off DC and turn it into a no-man’s land high security prison, and send the worst of all felons there to rot and cannibalize each other.

At least some good use would come from that godforsaken piece of swamp.

Deny the immigration enforcement related funding and use it to give the American taxpayer a tax rebate in the form of cash or credit against future tax liabilities.

How about that! You work and when you pay your taxes get the cash rebate based on the amount of earnings or credit rebate against earnings before taxes. Kinda like frequent flyer miles for the tax payers.
