Actually, it's probably intended to be prophylactic.

I.e., "don't bother to break into my place, there's nothing left here."

Probably hoping the building doesn't get trashed and burned. Anybody with any sense moved all portable assets out weeks ago.

It might be intended as a message that looting is futile. With all the time, intelligent thieves could come up with a solid plan to steal the gold and weapons in the midst of turmoil.

If I needed to hire a military contractor to move my assets it would be done by now. This probably is after the fact as far as the moving out phase goes.

I find it odd as well that this is happening now. Anyone who had gold or a gun shop surely made plans and took action months ago.
