Former President Jimmy Carter responded Friday to being referred to as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., quipping that its a compliment to be considered a terrible president by a warmonger like McCain.
[SNIP]
I was lucky enough to go through my four years, we never shot a bullet or dropped a bomb or fired a missile, Carter said.

I can’t stand either one of the old goats.
Your point has merit but Sen. McCain survived years of torture and confinement in a Vietnam prisoner camp, while President Carter never met a bloody dictator that he didn’t swoon at the sight of. That’s the difference for me.
“terrible president” “warmonger”
Mirror, mirror, on the wall
Who’s the biggest looser of all?
‘Break it up guys! You’re *both* right ...
but there is one who is a bigger looser
than both of you put together.’
The Magic Mirror
can we thunderdome mccain and carter? and just not open the dome for the winner while he’s still breathing?
Yes. President Reagan understood that we have strength and peace through power. Obama is a good example of working to produce the opposite result, one where retreat foments a dangerous world that invites terrorism and makes us sitting targets (just like the Carter years - only squared).
OR... FREED a hostage..
For me he destroyed the glory of that, when he teamed up with Vietnam forsaking our MIAs in exchange for MFN for Vietnam.
He was a complete jerk to the families of the MIAs and veteran’s groups that opposed him during that process.
At least up until he served as a pilot in live action, he was a total screw up his whole life. After his time in Hanoi, he reverted to being a total screw up again and has been since.
I can’t say anything about his service. I wasn’t there. There has been talk.
Desert 1 .....
Carter showed why pacifism, isolationism, and vacillation are dangerous traits and instincts in a president.
Wasn’t there a photo posted here—and all over the interweb—showing your hero posing with a Muslim cannibal and some other ROPers? I’m talking about the savage who boasted of taking a bite from the heart of one of his victims. Juan wasn’t swooning in that photo.
Yeah, it was noble of him to refuse to take early release from the Hilton because he was an admiral’s son and he knew the dinks would propagandize it.
But that was what—over 40 years ago? What’s he done lately, besides pal with Democrats and dump on conservatives?
Nothing.
I think those are the same photos that also had Al Baghdadi in them. McCain sure hangs out with shady characters.
As a postscript, at least Darrel Issa is following a sort of physician-ethos: if you can’t accomplish anything, “First do no harm.” Of course, he isn’t doing much of anything else.
Juan, on the other hand, can’t pass up an opportunity to shank conservative Republicans in the back.
At least that little pissant Carter stabbed Americans in the chests so we could see it coming.
I’m ready to part company with McCain and for that matter, those here blinded to reality of John McCain by by the (R) after his name.
“shady characters”
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn some time in the future—as well as jaw-dropping revelations about Obama—that McCain was compromised by the US Chamber of Commerce, public service unions, La Raza and other unsavory players in this selling of America, or as someone defined insanity: “the commission of the same mistake, over-and-over”.
This wouldn’t be McCain’s first inability to separate his office and it’s influence from aggressive lobbyists, or to use the defense, “I was a victim of bad company.”
But yeah, rubbing elbows with homicidal maniacs ... that’s beyond the pale.
“......we never shot a bullet or dropped a bomb or fired a missile,
....except on the American economy, society, values, and people.
Reagan understood the old Roman double entandre axiom.....
“Si vi pacum, parabellum.”
(If you want peace, prepare for war.)
Maybe if McCain is buried next to Jane Fonda I can get a twofer when visiting the grave of one or the other. They can share my relief.....
Oh my lord...say what you want abut McCain..... but McCain endured years of horrible torture at the hands of an enemy and to have Carter call him a warmonger is over the line in my books.
