The GOP Reaction to Obama's Immigration Order Will Be Way More Damaging Than They Realize
New Republic ^ | Nov 21, 2014 | Noam Scheiber

"There are several reasons why Obama’s executive action on immigration has put Republicans in a terrible bind. There’s the fact that conservatives are likely to respond by demanding a hardline position from the party’s 2016 nominee, torpedoing his or her electability. There’s the growing risk that conservative anger will force Republicans to do something epically stupid in the near term, like shut down the government...."

Republicans to do something epically stupid in the near term, like shut down the government...."

Our generally worthless Republican 'leaders' should be speaking out daily against this stupid meme that if a Republican House and/or Senate does not give Obama everything he wants in a budget or CR, then Republicans have shut down the government.

That is beyond absurd, but even many Republicans and some talk show hosts have adopted the language of the left on this issue. We won't win any issue until most all Republicans grown a backbone and stop playing along with this lunacy.

Let the courts decide if this is constitutional. Have a hearing like NOW! This is a national emergency and the SC should take it up.

Like 2008 and 2012?

This article is so poorly written and so sold out to the meme that Republicans are racists that it it simply is not worth refuting.

It is worth noting in passing, however, that the idea that the nation is substantively behind Obama's amnesty is belied by the recent election. Republicans will do very well on the substance if they keep talking jobs lost to illegal immigrants as well as "procedure." I simply do not believe the recent poll that says that more than 70% of Americans favor the elements of Obama's amnesty but 48% disapprove of the method. Americans are simply not that sophisticated, they don't think in those terms and they have never been enamored of procedure.

I believe they just know their borders are being overrun their jobs, their schools, and their hospitals are being overrun and it must be stopped.

What’s wrong with shutting down the government?

Nothing, but I haven't figured out why a predominately Republican government would "send themselves" home. Let the rats go home.

Because if it's one thing the New Republic stands for, it's helping Republicans.

“Let me understand this...a liberal from The New Republic is offering helpful political advice to conservatives?

If liberals are saying impeachment and a government shut down will hurt conservatives, you can bet that is what they really fear!”

Exactly. I call total BS - as proof I offer the mid terms.

Welcome to FR btw!

“Isn’t Obama frustrating the will of Congress by refusing to enforce duly passed laws?”

As I understand it, the unconstitutional part of the EO is that he’s actually writing new law.

When he says folks here 5 years can apply for work permits, etc, this is entirely his own doing. There is no law passed by congress saying illegals in the US since 2009 or earlier may be issued permits, etc.

However, he can say something like, since there’s only X dollars in the budget for INS and there’s not enough to deport everyone, we’re only going to deport some.

THE BIG LIE:

conservatives are likely to respond by demanding a hardline position from the party’s 2016 nominee, torpedoing his or her electability.

That is all you need to read, If they don’t push the Big Lie They Lose and We The People WIN. The entire RINO Elitist class depends on the BIG LIE, We The People know better, just look at the National Elections. The message needs to be

DUMP THE LEADERSHIP, NEW BLOOD IN CHARGE.

Exactly! I’ve been saying the same thing.

Republicans need to get out ahead of this and make it clear that any administrators that act unlawfully by granting work permits or SSN# to persons not legally entitled to them WILL BE PROSECUTED as soon as the DOJ is brought back into compliance.

At least put a little fear and doubt in their willingness to go along with this sham.

Bone head Boner said that Americans must not accept this decree from Obama....duh, isn’t that his job? These fools are never prepared. We knew it was coming and the Congress should have it already in place to have SCOTUS put an injunction on it. We have got to get some adults in charge of the GOP Senate and House. I nominate Cruz and Sessions.

“. . . demanding a hardline position from the party’s 2016 nominee, torpedoing his or her electability.”

70%+ of the people are opposed to amnesty, and yet this will “torpedo his/her electability”????

Where do these people come from? What goes on in their heads that they come out with such illogical commentary?
