I miss the big guns.
This really misses the full impact of the VLS (Vertical Launching System). These ships now have 128 launching cells (as opposed to 88 anti-air only) which can accommodate any missile configuration (anti-air, anti-ship, anti-sub, ballistic missile defense or land attack). Thus, each ship loading of missiles can be tailored to the evolving mission requirements. For instance, the loadout of Tomahawk missile has been increased form 8 to 128 - this was used in Desert Storm. The launcher identifies the missile type, selects the correct missile, and launches it without any adaptations or modifications. This has significantly changed the stature and roles of this amazing fighting system.
