I think of a scene from Edith Wharton in which the top aristocrats are incensed that someone is being ostracized—but not because he’s being ostracized, because lesser aristocrats are attempting to call the shots!
That is the GOPe. They’re not concerned with principle or the Republic, only with the chutzpah of lower creatures, the tea party and other conservatives, trying to horn in on what they consider their turf.
