WASHINGTON--U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today spoke on the Senate floor against the Presidents intended unilateral action to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Video of his remarks can be seen here and excerpts are below:
We are a nation of immigrants. And proud of it. Our rich, diverse heritage would not have been the same without the contribution of immigrants that have come from around the world. Contributions that have become part of the very fabric of our lives and our society. But part of what makes the American dream possible is the rule of law. It's our Constitution. It's not {the} President getting frustrated with Congress and issuing an executive order and defying the Constitution, ignoring his oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. That undermines the American dream."
"But the President is going to take steps in the coming days that would send men and women like those I have mentioned who come playing by the rules, pursuing legal immigration to the United States, he's going to basically tell those folks get to the back of the line. It's a sure way to send a message to the rest of the world that our country does not enforce its own laws, which is an essential part of who we are."
"And one of the saddest parts about what the President is going to do is he will poison the well and make it much, much harder--if not impossible--for us to do the sorts of things that a bipartisan, bicameral commitment exists to do, which is to make serious progress on our broken immigration system. The President seems intent on provoking a Constitutional crisis by adopting policies that he previously said were illegal."
"I believe his unilateral action, which is unconstitutional and illegal, will deeply harm our prospects for immigration reform. It will be deeply harmful to our nation's tradition of the rule of law and deeply harmful to the future of our democracy.
Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committees Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
We are a nation of immigrants. And proud of it.
Cornyn is attempting to placate his conservative Texas constituency on the one hand and his masters in the US Chamber of Commerce in the other.
What reform? Build a fence. Send illegals back. It is already the law.
NPR is in full propaganda mode with AMNESTY anecdotes on how wonderful this is.
No mention of the 1996 immigration law that abolished anchor babies and stated clearly “custody follows the parents, not the child”
We are a nation of immigrants.

No we are not..
only about 10% of the people in America are immigrants 30 Million are illegal aliens and their anchor babies, and rest are American citizens born here..
I am an immigrant but my children and grandchildren are not...
We are not a nation of immigrants...
We were not even a nation of immigrants in 1776 because many living then were the descendants of people who arrived during the previous 150 years..
That is a lie.
We are a nation of born and bred Americans. That makes us native and in most cases Natural Born Citizens. A minority of us are naturalized citizens. True immigrants. But a minority. Then there are legal aliens.
But finally, there are illegal aliens in an amount that can only be considered as invaders!
We are not a nation of immigrants. But we are a nation whose enemy is the federal government aiding and abetting an invasion of illegal aliens.
And while we’re at it,why not deport the current White House occupant...and a portion of Congress...and the federal courts...and...(oh well, just wishful thinking)
” Cornyn is attempting to placate his conservative Texas constituency on the one hand and his masters in the US Chamber of Commerce in the other.”
Yep
” o we are not..
only about 10% of the people in America are immigrants 30 Million are illegal aliens and their anchor babies, and rest are American citizens born here..”
Bingo!
Actually, go back 50,000 years and we are a world of immigrants. But all those immigrants eventually formed nations and adopted laws concerning how many and which new immigrants could come into their nations.
We are not a nation immigrants but a nation of laws. At least we'd better be if we hope to remain a nation in any practical sense of the word.
This mindless babbling about "We are a nation of immigrants" is nothing but a gutless and senseless bow to polticial correctness and anyone engaging in it shown automatically be suspect.
Big talk, no action. Business as usual for Cornball.
