FWIW, this time it's different, I think. People who don't particularly even like Republicans voted as they did to stop the president. Keep in mind that on those occasional times that the 'pubs did campaign on the issues it was (1)stopping and reversing the invasion of the US, (2) getting rid of Obamacare and (3) approving Keystone. An unspoken issue might well have been a "Ferguson Effect", that is a backlash that supports rule by law. The Republicans now own the issues, not the dems.
If they govern as if it were the Chamber of Commerce that elected them, the contempt of voters will be beyond comprehension.
What the voters did was give the Republicans enough rope. They can either climb up and off the slippery slope with it or hang themselves. I don't think they get another chance.
