Shutdown Hangover for GOP?
americanthinker.com ^ | 11/20/14 | C. Edmund Wright

It’s hard to go more than a few hours without being slapped in the face with some example how out of touch Washington’s wizards are with the country they rule. And there is no more compelling example of this dynamic than the retrograde opinion of Ted Cruz’ filibuster and the resultant “shutdown,” concerning which there is still a wrongheaded delusion held by almost everyone in town.

Inside Washington, the Republican establishment -- and everyone else in the beltway to Manhattan media bubble for that matter -- is still obsessed with the few days of shutdown late last year. They are all convinced that it did great damage to the Republican Party, and moreover, will do so in every instance the government is shuttered in perpetuity. It’s our elitists’ first grade equation: shutdown = Republican disaster, period. John Boehner can’t think past it, and neither can Mitch McConnell, Karl Rove, Bret Baier, Brit Hume -- or apparently anyone else in either the 202 or 212 area codes not named Ted Cruz.

Certainly not the editorial board of the embarrassingly stodgy and formulaically conventional Wall Street Journal, which labeled Cruz a “minority maker” for this tactics. And no, they haven’t revised their opinion, the 2014 midterms be damned.

Yet outside of glares given at Washington cocktail parties by reporters, there is no evidence this is the case. Not even a smidgen. In fact, there is considerable evidence to the contrary. You might remember the 2014 midterms? You know, the very thing the WSJ was referring to with the phrase “minority maker.”

This whimpering resistance AT BEST is insufficient. Idea coming up.

We should encourage the states to threaten the ‘Utah Option’ if the following is not at least supported by congressional republicans:

‘State Empowerment’ that could repeal executive orders, overturn this amnesty coup completely, and could solve many other problems.

Through a targeted suspension of congressional rules, a simple concept could be made into a constitutional amendment.

The state legislators collectively could appoint or replace a ‘Chief representative’ [term limited to three years] who can be a check against ALL tyranny through ‘anti-power’ authority:

1. Repeal executive orders [by the president]

2. Censure executive branch officials [three censures lead to an impeachment process by the states].

3. Veto new federal legislation.

4. Unilaterally freeze or cut any federal spending by 1% every two months except for Social Security benefits while disregarding union agreements.

— There are more, but this thread is about ‘Immigration’. —

Immigration is the only ‘act of power’ that the Chief could trigger:

IF the 2/3 of the states are dissatisfied with immigration/borders, they can permit the Chief to appoint a Borders Czar [who is also term limited to three years]. This czar could be loaded with so much focused power [checked and balanced through easy replacement and impeachment] that I do not foresee any effective political or legal sabotage of the czar's plans:

The GOP is worried the Marxist media won’t love them.

Pray America is waking

The GOP is worried the Marxist media won’t love them.

That's true, but it goes deeper than that. They are under the illusion that if the media hates them, then so does the entire country.

The real problem is the feds will threaten all federal funding. If the states want to go it alone they will have to withold all federal tax revenues. That is when the obama will send in the troups

What you’re proposing is even more unconstitutional than what Obama is proposing.

The Democrats shut down the government and the Republicans get the blame.

As I understand it, the Utah Option is dissolving the entire federal government. Not something many people would like, but it gives states negotiation leverage.

The Grubercrats should be thankful for Ted Cruz, they would have lost many more seats if he hadn’t shut the government down. HAHA

Spot on, sir!

I would add that I believe that Obama's actions during the shutdown-closing monuments and national parks, giving the finger to our Vets visiting Washington, and even obscuring the view for heaven's sake, of Mount Rushmore, was a moment in which many, many people who had never paid much attention, began to observe Obama and his actions, and found him, for the first time, to be juvenile, petty, and vindictive.

This is when Barack Obama became re-evaluated among the people. When Brit Hume says the "Republicans always, always, get the blame", he forgets to add "by the media". This doesn't always mean the people buy what the media is selling, and I think that's the case here. Another shut down will mean the media will blame the Republicans, but will the people? This author seems to think not, and I agree.

Now as a Republican House and Senate will face Obama and his increasing threats to go around Congress on amnesty, environmental regulations tied to global warming, not to mention what he might do on ObamaCare, another shutdown or three might be called for. Again, the devastation of amnesty, an out-of-control EPA -- and yes, still ObamaCare -- will be far more important to most of the nation than having our precious bloated inefficient and corrupt government pretend to shut down for a few hours.

When I think of the "shutdown", I think of this ....

... and I'm more in favor of responding to 0bama's threats with every weapon in our arsenal, and especially a government shutdown. 0bama disrespects America and its veterans. He did sh*t like this intentionally to create "pain" with the shutdown, since he knew the shutdown itself wouldn't be felt as pain by the country or its citizens unless he and his minions inflicted something. This backfired and should be used by the GOP as reasons for a shutdown, not as reasons not to do so. America likes strength in its leaders, not weakness.

The last Government shut-down was devastating for the Republican Party. I mean, just look at the last Election on November 4th. Oh....... uh........ wait a minute...... maybe..... Never mind.

I think Obama is going to insist on a shutdown since has been duped into believing that it can only hurt Republicans.
