Under pressure from a large faction of rank-and-file members, Senate Republican leaders are warming to the idea of keeping the rule change known as the nuclear option that Democrats imposed to end filibusters of nominations.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican who will become majority leader in January, is leaving the decision to the will of his members, and at least half of them currently oppose reversing course, said GOP aides close to the discussions.
The leadership team this week began signaling that the new rule, which reduced the number of votes needed to cut off confirmation filibusters from 60 to 51, is likely here to stay.

The nuclear option does not work to our advantage with a Democrat president. It means that the 46 Dems in the new Senate only need 5 Rinos to confirm. With the nuclear option they would need 14 Republicans to vote with them.
The older ones, have been humiliated by Reid.
This is going to be a different GOP Senate.
Reid treated the Senate like Pelosi treated the House GOP, and removed them from relevancy.
Unlike the House, the Senate allowed the Minority, great power to affect legislation, treating all Senators as co-equals.
Reid threw that out and told the GOP Senators to shut up, you have no voice.
The GOP 'old guard' is not going to forget it.
That was the danger in Reid's approach, if the Democrats lost the Senate, it could and would be used against them.
Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have destroyed all semblance of normal political discourse.
It’s time to change the Senate rules and include legislation under the nuclear option.
McConnell is a spineless worm and is going back on his word when said that if Reid invoked it the GOP would not only retain it but use it for Legislation and SCOTUS appointments.

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) maintains that it is time for Democrats in the Senate to get off their ass and do something other than vote no. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is preparing the groundwork for the cave, stating, I think its clear we cant go forward in the Senate unless you all have heard something I havent. And so the next move, obviously, is up to the House.
