If what Gutierrez is saying is true, I really wonder whether the best thing for Republicans to do is ... nothing.

At least from a legislative standpoint. The big prize here is path to citizenship/voting rights and the President can’t do that unilaterally. The Republicans claim that Obama’s completely poisoned the well on immigration and they won’t deal with him at all on it until he rescinds.

In the meantime places like CA and NM, even Harry Reid’s Nevada, get flooded with immigrants who now demand services that those states can’t really afford. But with the GOP running the entire appropriations process, the FedGov won’t help subsidize.

Think of it as sitting back and passively allowing the Dems to inflict Cloward-Piven on themselves.

You are counting on many things happening that would be unprecedented - like a democrat telling the truth, like democrats giving up on a welfare program for want of funding, like the GOP not going along with the funding of social welfare programs.

And the most relevant one here, like assuming the democrats will allow an initiative of theirs to be rolled back - formerly illegal immigrants having their legal status revoked.
