Army chooses 31 women for spring Ranger Course assessment

The U.S. ArmyRanger school has 31 female candidates for its planned Ranger Course Assessment next spring.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence in Fort Benning, Georgia, said on its Facebook page Monday that Fort Benning’s Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade has chosen 11 officers and 20 noncommissioned officers as observers and advisers for the course.

Candidates went through a week of training to give them an idea of the rigors that Ranger School inflicts upon soldiers.

“I was very satisfied with both the quality and quantity of the volunteers we received,” said Maj. Gen. Scott Miller, commanding general of the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

“Their performance and professionalism over the course of the week was extraordinary. This group did very well for what was a very physically challenging week for any soldier,” he added.

I was in the Army...and never even tried out for Ranger School. I knew I would have a hard time making it.

But don’t be surprised if some of these women make it through.

You’ve probably been to Airborne School...do you remember having to do 10 chin-ups before going into the mess all? Do you remember that next to every chin-up bar in the Airborne training area had one right next to it...around 3 feet off the ground? That’s what the women used, lying on their backs - for something as simple as 10 chin-ups, the standards were ‘modified’. Nothing stops them from doing the same at Ranger School.

Of course the APFT is already on different scales, one for each gender. Another example is the Indoor Obstacle Course (IOCT) at West Point. As you can imagine, some of the most physically tough women in the nation attend West Point - and they do a lot of Infantry training with the men, and keep up to some extent. But the IOCT is a gut check.
It took a little over two minutes to finish, and its a brutal sprint (with obstacles sprinkled in) for the entire time. There are trash cans at the finish line to throw up in, to give an idea of how hard it is. Well....and A+ time for a women was barely quick enough for a man to pass it. The scales barely even overlapped, the differences in genders were so pronounced. But it wasn’t a big deal...they just ‘modified’ the scales.

Aside from the fact that I’ve never met a female in the Army who could do the physical work of Ranger school, what about the other considerations? We were naked a lot in the school. And oh, by the way, what about the slit trenches inside of the patrol bases? Ya know, those open pits out in the open where you do your “duty” for all to see. What a freakin mess.

‘Both men and women will die as a result of this.’

Yup, but those who forced this won’t...what a shame. It all sounded so good in the speeches though.

Now for another stupid question. Did they go through and graduate the course before becoming advisers or is this some funky PC BS?

If the Army is like the Air Force, back in the day when the first females entered pilot training, no-nonsense hard as hell, fast-paced, strict-grading pilot training, the Air Force took steps to ensure at least ONE female graduated no matter how ‘bad the ‘good’ one was. Had to practically staple a Samsonite handle on their back for some of them to carry them to graduation.

Pilot training standards were eased, pass/fail standards waived. . .

“I was very satisfied with both the quality and quantity of the volunteers we received.”

Translation: lots of them were good looking. Were strack = all their brass was shined and ribbions in place, not a hair on their heads out of place, their hair styles were to regulation. And they were good looking ...

“Their performance and professionalism over the course of the week was extraordinary. This group did very well for what was a very physically challenging week for any soldier.”

...But, for a Ranger cadet, this was as physically challenging as a game of checkers. They ran the same PT as the men? The same rope climbing, rung traversing, low crawling and wall leaping routine before morning PT even starts? 10 pull-ups before every meal at Harmony Church? Really? Really...?

This is madness. Rangers aren't about standards. Rangers are about BEATING people like SPETZNAZ, one-on-one, at night, with a freaking knife, in winter, on the side of a mountain, after hiking twenty miles with an eighty pound pack.

The ENEMY is the damn "standards"!

"Still have my Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder Badges"

Well, you can take solace in that; it's more than most folks ever get, I'd bet.

It’s totally PC from the Chief of Staff of the Army, who is pushing it, all the way down the chain.

True!

They will find a way to lower standards!

Remember the fuss that was made when no women could complete the USMC Infantry training.

Why wouldn't a woman pass pilot training.

After all, some women, my mother included, ferried bombers across the North Atlantic in WW II.

Why do you suppose Obama has been getting rid of so many Generals, etc.? He has to get yes men in there that like this PC garbage. If the girls want to play the game put them in their own front line group, women only, and send them to fight ISIS. See what the numbers tell us.
