Yes. Because the internet is a public utility.

Please explain how it isn’t.

An ISP is a private business.

ISPs are a private business leveraging a public asset with the permission of the landlords (We the People), exactly like CBS and NBC. And it is established trade law in this country — CBS doesn’t own the airwaves. As a condition of their tenancy, CBS accepts FCC regulation. Or they can hand over their license to a tenant who will.

The internet is no different, although everyone has been flummoxed into thinking Comcast owns it. They don’t. We all do.

So Comcast is blocking your NetFlix? Is that your reason for inviting more government regulation of the internet?

“So Comcast is blocking your NetFlix? Is that your reason for inviting more government regulation of the internet?”

Yes.

Comcast has the privilege of leveraging a public asset for profit. They have the privilege of doing business with no competition. But they exceeded the terms of the arrangement without permission from the people who own the internet. It wasn’t enough to charge me for service. “Oh, you’re using Netflix? Really enjoying that Netflix, aren’t you? Bet you’ll pay a lot more...”

We. Own. The. Internet. Not Comcast.

Please explain how contractors administering a public asset can be forced to be responsive to consumers who own it unless there is government regulation. Or is your answer just shut up and take it? Comcast knows best?

We’re the landlords, and the TENANTS get to tell us how it’s going to be?

Interesting. You say you can’t get Netflix on Comcast internet service. I find that hard to believe.

Isn’t this just a whiny hypothetical? You ally yourself with the Free Press Marxists to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.

Nothing hypothetical about it. It’s a matter of FCC public record that Comcast slowed down the service of customers using Netflix to discourage its use and to encourage people to switch over to the streaming service Comcast owns, Xfinity.

Comcast also extorted huge fees from Netflix — a giant transfer of wealth from Netflix to Comcast — under the threat of not allowing users to use Netflix at all. For no reason other than Comcast decided to help itself to Netflix profits.

The FCC sanctioned Comcast, by the way. It’s all FCC public record. Google “Comcast slowed down Netflix.”

In your city, do you support the government regulation of water, electric power, and natural gas? And if you do, does that make you a Marxist?

Or do you think all utilities should be turned over to private companies?

Yes!
Any time the answer is "More government regulation," how stupid was the question?
VA, anyone?

False analogy. There are lots of hospitals, even more doctors. Plenty of competition. No need for government run VA hospitals.

Comcast is very close to owning the internet in this country. One company, owning a public asset that was invented at taxpayer expense. I didn’t agree to gift a multi-trillion dollar asset to Comcast.

How about the army? Should the army be turned over to a private company?

Because a person goes along with having some kind of government — you know, the opposite of anarchy — you guys are screaming “Marxism!” It’s absurd.
