more than 30 arrests"—for crimes including "robbery, assault, and narcotics."

Why was this guy not in jail?

Can/should the family sue the NYPD?

Only 30 arrests?

Probably sees, and laughs at, his shanked victims
repeatedly at the Police stations.

It’s not the police dept. It’s the judicial system.

Sounds like NYPD did its job with the 30 arrests. It is the prosecutors and courts who failed to keep him locked up.

“Why was this guy not in jail?”

Because he wouldn’t be homeless if they put him in jail.

Duh!

This was so sad....that poor family.

If the guy’s not in jail, it’s not likely the fault of the police. It’s probably lawyers and liberal politicians.

Ah, another “homeless” psychopath being allowed to roam the streets for political correctness.

This victim’s family needs to start filing lawsuits against the city.

If the courts won’t convict, or won’t impose prison terms on the clearly dangerous, that’s not the NYPD’s fault.

Black guy murders a random Asian guy, and there’s no discussion of whether it might have been a hate crime?

The 30 arrests somewhat absolves the NYPD. At the same time it indicts the Judicial system and the liberal bureaucracy of advocates for these people.

Why was this guy not in jail?

Because our legal system doesn't allow us to arrest people and lock them up if we think they're bad people and might hurt someone?

We only lock people up when they're convicted of a crime. Since the guy was on parole, presumably he'd been convicted and served time.

Every guy we convict, with exception of those few given true life sentences and those very few executed, will eventually get out and walk our streets. Or stand behind us at the subway station.

Homeless or just no fixed address, there’s a difference.

Expect the asian neighborhoods to riot and loot. Well maybe not-— this son of a Bam was doing a little community organizing of his own. A lot of black on asian crimes going on.

How about a "30 strikes and you're out" law?

Why was this guy not in jail?

Simple, the Obama Administration in all it's wisdom got rid of the Three Strikes law. Without that the Justice system has become just a revolving door.

Gosh, for a few seconds, I felt sorry for the guy because he was homeless. Then I read the opening sentence, where it’s revealed that he had been arrested 30 times. So I think, “homeless thug” might have been a truer portrayal of the guy in the headline.

I like the way he was decribed in the linked article, from the NY Post.
http://nypost.com/2014/11/17/suspect-in-custody-in-deadly-subway-push/

Turns out this guy tried to set his brother’s house on fire in Texas a few years ago. This guy needs to be in prison for the rest of his life.

Works for me. Pass such a law, then enforce it for future offenses.

But the Constitution prohibits ex post facto.

It is probable any cop in a “bad neighborhood” could walk down the street and point out dozens of guys with a similar record.
