Finally.
An additional 7,286 votes were added to the Alaska Senate totals today so far. And while Begich received almost 58% of those votes, Sullivan still leads by 6,211 votes. It is believed there will no more than 3,000 additional ballots to count by this Wednesday (Nov 19).
Begich fairly beaten by Sullivan. A statement you cannot make about Begich vs Stevens.
I believe I read that a number of them were provisional ballots where the voter had to provide additional information before they could be counted.
What a Classless act.
Miss Piggy in Louisiana should do the right thing and toss in the towel...Oh, and just imagine if the RNC had actually tried to win Virginia Senate seat!!
These totals will be updated a few more times between and Wednesday, but not enough to make up the difference or get even close to the 0.5% vote recount threshold (currently the lead is at 2.224%).
My God. Begich was turning into SoreLoserman. He should have conceded when the race was called.
Good news ping! B^)
If he wanted to wait, that’s fine. But when nearly 46,000 ballots had been counted by last Friday and Begich barely made a dent in Sullivan’s Election day lead, he should have conceded over the weekend. Which is what Parnell(R) did in the Governor’s race with Walker(I?/D?/R?).
Great news, smooth! Thanks for the heads up. WooHoo!
WOOT!!!
i thought we were already +8.
Correct. Kinda hard to come back and win when you’re 6,211 votes behind with only about 3,000 ballots to count! HA!
Good news all around. Thanks for posting! B^)
Many news agencies have been calling Alaska for Sullivan for quite some time, making it +8. Since Alaska was still counting and Begich hadn’t conceded, most were saying +7 and praying that Begich didn’t pull out the election like Franken in Minnesota’s 2008 Senate election.
IIRC, you are the poster from Alaska, and worried about the small villages ballots.
We are all happy things turn out for our side.
And so Begich, helped to squeak into office by corrupt prosecutors filing bogus charges against Senator Stevens, leaves hopefully never to be seen again after January 2015.
Whoop Whoop
welcome news!
Mark Begich needed 60 to 70% of the last round of ballots to overcome Sullivan’s lead.
It wasn’t in the cards. This makes the GOP pickup 8+ as Alaska’s Senate seat flips Republican.
Senate now stands 53-45 GOP with one seat remaining next month in LA.
