Using Executive Order on Immigration, Obama Would Reverse Long-Held Stance
New York Times ^ | November 17, 2014 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR

Posted on 11/17/2014 3:12:09 PM PST by reaganaut1

President Obama is poised to ignore stark warnings that executive action on immigration would amount to “violating our laws” and would be “very difficult to defend legally.”

Those warnings came not from Republican lawmakers but from Mr. Obama himself.

For years, the president has repeatedly waved aside the demands of Latino activists and Democratic allies who begged him to take action on his own, and he insisted publicly that a decision to shield millions of immigrants from deportation without an act of Congress would amount to nothing less than the dictates of a king, not a president.

In a Telemundo interview in September 2013, Mr. Obama said he was proud of having protected the “Dreamers” — people who came to the United States illegally as young children — from deportation. But he said at the time that he could not apply that same action to other groups of people.

“If we start broadening that, then essentially, I’ll be ignoring the law in a way that I think would be very difficult to defend legally,” Mr. Obama told Jose Diaz-Balart in the interview. “So that’s not an option.”

But Mr. Obama has effectively reversed his position and now said he believes that such actions can be “legally unassailable,” as a senior White House official put it last week. Mr. Obama is expected to announce plans soon to expand the program for Dreamers to shield up to five million people from deportation and provide work permits for many of them.

The president insisted over the weekend that he had not changed his position.

Yes, this was actually published in the NYT. If only their editorial board and Congressional Rats would heed it.

OblahMao speaketh with forked tongue and its not the first or last time he would be flip flopping on his own words and promises as he uses bent, twisted logic to reverse himself.

The president insisted over the weekend that he had not changed his position.

If the Slimes notes the video to the contrary; Obama is out of favor with them.

They have to clear the decks for supporting her highness Hillary.

Therefore I'm looking for the Slimes to Progressively distance themselves from Obama.

And I do mean Progressively.

LOL

Perhaps the NY Slimes is trying to nudge their fellow traveler that he is at great legal and political risk to ram through executive Amnesty.

Amnesty will destroy, not empower, the democrat party. That’s the dirty little reverse-gruber.

“The keyword here is blackwhite. Like so many Newspeak words, this word has two mutually contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it means the habit of impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction of the plain facts. Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary. This demands a continuous alteration of the past, made possible by the system of thought which really embraces all the rest, and which is known in Newspeak as doublethink.”

Obama sure is a good Party member!

Does anybody else think the Ferguson outcome and this exec order are going to come out on the same day as to detract the nation’s attention away from it?

Obama has one principle, "expand the Federal Government as far and as fast as he can; and consolidate that power in himself and the Democrat Party".

In between, everything is tactics. If to win the election, he has to tell the hispanics he can't do amnesty by executive order, then that's what he says. Once the election is over, he does executive amnesty. Everything is just words on a teleprompter.

You can understand everything Obama does by this standard. Show me where I'm wrong.

Can you see me raising my hand?

Think you're both right. Maybe not the same day ..... more likely timed to the cresting of Ferguson stories on MSM a day or two later. In the MSM Big Story shadow, as it were.
