My wife's first cousin was at USC when the riots happened. Dumb college students thought it would be "fun" to go see all the "excitement". They got their ass beaten and thrown in jail by LAPD, and for a week was moved around and disappeared. Not charged with anything, but kept in the pokey because he was in the lobby of his apartment building filming the cops on the corner.
In jail, he said that the Koreans were rounded up en masse and kept to each other, and he could hear them telling each other to not say a word to betray Koreatown. Cops didn't have film evidence, and every single Korean kept their mouth shut.....prosecutors had NOTHING on them. Guns were traded back and forth in case a bullet was matched to a particular person. Koreans took care of their own.
You are right though. No charges because DA/PROC had nothing.
Gives credence to SSS.
“Cops didn’t have film evidence”
Really? I can go to youtube right now and find video of them firing pistols, with clear view of their faces....and the video wasn’t dug up later, its local news reports.
I’m glad they were never charged...but the LAPD must have tried real hard to ‘not find anything’ they could charge them with.
Good observation on Koreatown. There’s lots of adulation about the defenders, but little discussion of their arrests, active efforts to blur liability, and severe consequences if just one of them had not kept silent. They were very close to losing everything they had successfully defended.
